This is good information. I'll give the pulley a try along with my device and see how that works.Yes. Without the pulley under there the HH and carabiner would rotate and cause a lot of set back. You do have to use a knee and foot ascender for it to work in a rope walker system. A hand ascender above the HH will cause things to collapse. For normal slack tending you just pull on the tail like you would with a Hitchclimber.
Obviously there will be some people that will not want to bother with a pulley ( though they really should try it ) and they will still need some form of advancing tether. Also all the HH 1s will still need a corner trap and that material you are using would make a very tidy one.
I'd be happy to send you the tether, but I'm curious, why weld your shackle closed?I would like to try your tending device with my shackle that I plan on welding closed.
Very interesting, Richard. I've watched this video more than once, but now with the help of you and a bunch of other guys here, the whole HH pulley thing has finally dawned on me! I need to try it out. Here is one way I was doing it when I was using the hitchhiker more.
The pinto, shakle and swivel combined very well.
for those of us who don't use or want to use a pulley underneath why would a tether not be needed with the new hh?FYI we have sold shy of 1000 HHs and are about to make this version obsolete. I like this add on and can see how it would enhance the design but doubt it will be needed with the next generation.
The first time I tried the shackle, it came undone as I was descending. I managed to get the pin back in and I made it down. Ever since then, I put the pin in from the right as I'm looking at it, and it works like a charm. It's easy to understand why a carabiner is used - that could never happen. Nevertheless, I like the shackle and I continue to use it. I don't mind signing a waiver, if that's what I have to do. For me, it's all about personal responsibility anyway. And knowing your system. And knowing yourself and that whatever you're doing, it's working for you. Be safe! The hh can setup to work really will with pulley and original biner.
I once screwed my shackle on the wrong side. I found it loose when return to the gound and that put a end to shackle stuff for me. I know that it will not be midline detachable. As far roperunner and bdb, signing a wavier and the price does not compute with me.
A waiver for a safety device = crash test dummy, I don't think so, homie don't play that!

$12.50 plus shipping would do it. By the way, when you insert the pin from the right as the spine is facing you, the rope will act to tighten the pin as you descend. When ascending there's minimal contact with the rope, so it really in't a concern. I turn mine in by hand and crank it down tight, and I never have a problem. Also I threaded some throwline into the end of the pin for a keeper so I don't drop it.Available for retail sale. I plan on passing mine down to my great grandchildren.
Well said, The wavier is required to purchase a Bdb. I am pretty sure the shackle is a operate choice option. Which lead to my operator error. Maybe I will try red loctite next time I use the shackle. PS. Do you have a price for your tender?
