New Chipper

I am looking for advice on a new chipper purchase. We are looking for 18" capacity, single axle, under 10K lbs (for Class B CDL), a winch, and possibly a grapple. We have about $60K budgeted.

We have run Vermeer 1800A and 1800XL for some time. We also have experience with the Bandit 280.

I am very curious about the Bandit 1890 "Brute" but I don't know the cost.

Any thoughts will be appreciated as we start to research and demo equipment.

Thanks,

Josh

Josh, we have been running a 1590 bandit for the last couple of years, and have been very impressed with it. The only issue with it has been the computer it's gone bad twice now.

Morbark Hurricane/2400. Baddest chipper on one axle.

They are good chippers, I've been working a bit with a crew that runs one, it's a beast. Only issue is the feed wheel chain drive jumps off once in a while, it's rare but it happens. Tom, I guess that's one issue they haven't sorted. Again, it's a beast.

been using a Hurricane/2400. it really is an animal. like using it more than the Morbark M18R we have because it fits in more places, and the M18R for a new chipper has been a PITA with computer/wiring issues.

You won't find an 18 inch with a grapple under 10k pounds. Largest I've seen was a 14". We bought another 1590 at the end of last year after specin out a 1890hd. Which is over 10k pounds. The 1590 tier 3 173hp was at about $63000. The 1890hd was like 12k more. Seems to me you can skate around the 10k rule if your truck is a non-cdl vehicle.

I was told ~75K for a tier 4 1590, weighs in around 9900 lbs.

Weighed ours a few months back 9590, low on fuel no winch. Had to replace the crap floatation tires bandit put on it...those 6 inch wide radials they normally use break through concrete/asphalt/ semi moist yards. The reason why we tried going with a tandem. The brute is no longer available with the dually single axle or tandem. Brute was like $66000 last year

The computer for the throttle made by controlls inc? You can send the back for repairs and if they can't fix it will sell you one for about 25% the price of anyone else. On number 3 on our oldest 1590...spare on the shelf now.

Like some of the posts on here, I think they are right about the over 10,000lbs if your thinking of going 18 " w grapple. I have a 2010 Bandit 1590 winch 142 HP Perkins turbo diesel and although it is rated a 17" cap. chipper it eats 19-20 inches. yet still under 9000lbs give or take. Never had an issue but wish they would make a wider rim for a wider tire while backing on lawns. Super Machine!!
