New bucket truck?

This means you have a rear mounted truck and a center mounted truck in one set up!

What is the advantage of having a center mounted truck when there is no chip box involved??

Yes the ALC customer svc is awesome as are their rear mount 60+ footers. But they need a rear mount 75' IMO.

For removals I'm REAL happy with my old Hi-Ranger 6TDI-65PBI. It has 70' of working height and since it is a non overcenter unit that maximum working height is close to 15' behind the truck which keeps the truck out from under the tree. I have owned this unit since 1990 and it is a great rig and Dueco has been fantastic on any parts I need. There has been times where the booms have been to long and I couldn't fit them through other trees in the yard. A guy I grew up with has a rear mounted non overcenter 52' Hi-Ranger(57' WH) that sneaks into some tight spots and is a super rig. I get mostly removal work and I think a Mat-3 unit would be the best of both worlds for us but I can see where a company that does a fair amount of pruning or line clearing would be better off with an overcenter unit.

Any idea why ALOC didnt mount their elevator trucks as a front mount so when u raised elevator it was a rear mount? If they put big stabilizers off the rear so it didnt tip i think it would have been a great setup.

I ran a ALOC elevator for 3 years. The elevator design is fantastic in the sense that it allows your entire radius to be changed as the elevator pulls you forward. A great setup for pruning multiple trees from one setup. It sucks when you are working off the rear and need to be higher but not away from your work. Working over the side sucks, too much damage potential to the truck. Id rather have 3 levers (4 in the elevator) then a pistol grip any day.

The Best Bucket Truck??? That's easy! It's the one that will comfortably do about 85% of your work (for the rest: don't bid it, or hire it out to someone who does have the right truck), is PAID FOR, is safe, and will pass inspectional test! We all get wrapped up in the "perfect truck". Perfection comes at a very high price in our profession. Remember, the game is not about acquiring equipment or impressing your competition- it is about efficiently equipping yourself for the work at the lowest reasonable cost. We work to provide, to make income. Unfortunately most these days work to make Payments. As long as you're in the "installment trap" you are not making and keeping your money. Those fancy, shiny trucks depreciate just like the simple, dull ones do.

Interesting statement. We fell into the "installment trap" and purchased new Altec 60/70 bucket 04. Made excellent money with. Kept it for 9 years. It looked as good as the day we bought it. Cost per year of use, less than 3,000.00 based on selling price. Truck actually appreciated based on 150,000.00 purchase price of new vehicle. Know for a fact this vehicle was responsible for much of the company profits due to just being onsite per customer comments. And then there is the depreciation tax aspect, but that is another story.

The post statements appear totally unfounded and not based on any type of actual knowledge. True, equipment does not need to look good, but it sure helps.

We refuse to work/drive with crappy looking equipment. EVERYTHING we have is nice and shiny...... and we do make money. Sorry for the rant.

Am I the only one wanting more then 75ft? We have had our Highrange 60/70 since 2002. Aside from a few issues with a few hoses rubbing in bad spots, it has been a great unit. I believe they updated the knuckle of the boom around 06-07 to add more clearance for hoses.

Personally I wish someone would take a unit like the Mat3 and put it on an elevator like the Highranger. Something in the 90ft range would be nice. It seems like we miss by 10-15 feet all the time when doing crane work.

I had a Mat3 on demo before we bought the highranger. The extendable upper boom is nice when working your way threw a tight trees. Same as I use the lift on the highranger often when I am only 40-50ft up. Its more about boom placement, getting up and over a branch, ect.
