New Boots!

I've been watching Ontario flash his new boots. Nice. And I've seen the comments about no metal lacing for footlocking. Makes sense. But I'd like to see something on the instep specifically for that ... But I can't think what might help. Have you seen soccer shoes lately? The laces are offset to let the instep better get on the ball. What special feature there would make it easier to footlock a rope? As a new climber, I can use all the help I can get ... Something good in the design would push me into a buy, if it worked.

I see a lot of sticky hikers being used and once I saw on another site, this guy had modded his hikers with this rubber that he glued to the appropriate sides of them to enhance traction on the line. Not only did it look absolutely lethal but I bet it was really affective. Anyone know of that? Do spill.

Dude, it was kill. This was a few years ago and my man did it right. Using all the right goo and hammering the rubber pads down on a shoe anvil with a hammer. Letting it dry a long time. Maybe he'll see this thread and cough with the pics brah.

Perfect Thread..snagged a pair of Arbpros last week and man! are they comfortable. Great for pruning compared to my loggers, only had a couple of removals this week so not enough time on the hooks to tell. I was a little worried about overall support but so far so good time will tell all. Thanks to Luke at TreeStuff keeping the goods coming

Here's what I'm seeing ...

Build a nice light workboot with an appropriate sole, a shank, a pointy toe and a rand around. Then get the laces away from our ropes and put in something to grab the footlock. Not just a grippy rubber, although that would be nice by itself. But some sort of molded ridge that helps you "fold" the rope over to get a grip, not just run over your foot "straight thru".

All we need is a shoe factory. Dream on. I sure would like to see those mod pix -- I couldn't find them here.

I moded my scarpa mescalitos with C4 stealth rubber in all the right place.....

not sure they make that boot anymore but sportiva make a new big wall boot that looks pretty worthy...$$$$though

old computer went kerplunk.....

It aint hard to do....resole kit at your local climbing store.....sand and prep booot....layers of barge cement, then let dry....once dry stick rubber on...hammer finish

24hrs and your ready to footlock

one of you search gurus can prolly find them on here...2006?

Thanks, no bivy, bummer on the computer.

Five Ten shoes sells resole kits with good C4 rubber. Very grabby.

Can you describe exactly where you put it? Do you mod each shoe the same or not?

A lot of time when I miss a footlock, it's cuz the rope runs thru the "tunnel" formed by the arch, just In front of the heel. I know this is bad technique, but do your mods help with that?

for what it is worth when I started to learn footlocking, late in my career, it was on Poison Ivy and rather a pain in the so a few of the guys recommended that I switch to another rope, especially better if a 1/2" diameter and learn the technique then I could switch back and things would be better. So I am passing this on to you with hopes it may be helpful-

Hey I have seen a lot of the other cool stuff you have contributed so I say skip the 'rubber tops' and just design a good pair of 'Anti-Gravity' boots...it would blow the wraptor away!
Good Luck

Thanks, Scrat. I’m working it. I’ve got a call into Tony Stark about getting a pair of his special boots. But made of titanium, of course.

I did have a long conversation with Carl Limmer. He’s a very nice guy and knows everydamnthing about boots.

I would seriously appreciate any thoughts about footlocking in general and boot mods in particular.

And just in case the IronMan guy doesn’t come through, I’ve contacted Eva Longoria’s agent for her to be in the next video. I figure she’d make any boots look pretty good. Anyway, I just want to watch her tie, dress and set my prussic.

Tnx for the link, TP.

No Bivy, your work is awesome, looks like it came from the factory. Tell us what worked for you and what you would change. Would you have dots on the toe?
