Need a new mechanical

Soo many mechanicals. With the recent releases, I'm a bit burned out.
Was talking to the new climber, on the crew I most frequent, about the lack of arb stores around here. Well, 45mins from me but in the metro area. It would be great to open one up.

@evo 's post made me think of that. Trying one out. It'd be cool to have some 15' ropes hanging from a loft to try out demo gear. Or just hang in a new saddle to see how it fits. Sucks looking at stuff online with no way to molest it before a purchase.

It'll never happen for me though. I'm more keen to build a shop here at home. I miss tinkering with muscle cars and pickups.

I think the Uni has a very solid place and a unique niche for climbing. Think of a simple rope clamp for ascent and an F-8 for descent and being able to switch between the 2 in an instant. Great for straight up and down and staying close to the spar with very minimal effect with sticky pitch trees.

The Vermeer dealer in castleton is also a notch dealer. No it's not one of those arb stores that has ropes hanging and will let you climb in there but they do have pretty good selection....those arb stores we all want just don't exist in New york

And they probably don't have a ton of mechanicals in store. Last time I was there I think I saw a zz and akimbo. Their good people and selection stock has gotten better over the years.
Recently on the aging arborist podcast the guy who owns gap arborist supply talked about the business end of arb stores bc it sounds like he's got a nice shop you can climb in and see everything in stock and it's really hard to provide a store like that. He even had a hard time finding an accountant bc it's so complicated to have stock like that on the front it's pretty interesting

just saw the reflex is "in stock" at my favorite domestic vendor. Hasn't been available to buy in the US previously unless you do a "preorder". I would have bought one. but been watching folks demonstrate slippage after 6 months. glad I didn't buy it. Now seeing reports of the blackbird wearing out too. The Angus video made me want to buy a bb.

was strongly thinking to get an akimbo2 but it has some stupid bs things that seem to be challenging the community. Plus the akimbo1 is a diva, been running it several years and can never rely on it. it's either awesome or nope.

been climbing on the bulldog bone srt and zillon double. often in sap. just need bulletproof and reliable consistent. and easy to use always.

I just ordered a new unicender. proven tech. no sitback, srt/mrs, doesn't gaf about sap. great $$

it is unchanged frozen in time exactly the same. doesn't have a tree like the old wtd shop though where you could sit in a harness before buying it.

For as big of an arborist community that Portland has you would think that it could keep a good arborist supply store going. History has shown us that either that assumption is incorrect or that the people running those businesses haven’t been very good at business.

I hear that and it's been on my mind. On the path of a BDB more, then MAYBE getting a blackbird at another date to play with.....depending on reviews.

if you need a reliable production tool, get the cbcb. if you're rec climber, get the other stuff

FMI went belly up and doesn't exist anymore. Feenaughty machinery took over the Avant, Morbark, and Rayco brands.
