Native Americans and trees

Wow, on the Octopus Tree. I will have to pay some deeper attention when out in the local woods to see any fascinating shapes, although I did enjoy finding a tree with an old branch collar that had become shaped like a cup holder. Wished I had some coffee with me.

For a complete shift in focus, check this out! Friend shared it on Facebook this morning:

I'm not a climber by any stretch of the imagination but what a kick to get to be the guy at the top!

I, personally, believe that the Cherokee did this intentionally. There are A LOT of trees like this in the area I live in. I have one on my property that points directly to a 65' waterfall. It is even more interesting when you find one, and start heading in the direction it is pointing, only to find another inline with the direction the first was pointing. I have also heard of them called "Cherokee mailbox" if the pointed end is hollow, it can allow for an item to be stored inside.

More pics of the bent live oak in Austin. I'm not so sure that it's a Marker Tree but it sure has the most interesting character of ANY tree that I've seen.

Can you show me where you see the hole for the tie down? Put an x or arrow to point it out. If so, you're seeing something that no one else has seen. I'd like to have fresh eyes look at it

That would be cool if there was a rock there with leather fragments or some other sign of being thus used. But it would be mighty olllld.

btw the doc opened for my 'puter. If anyone else sees that circle please let me know I'm not hallucinating!
