Last pic: Close up of landing zone. Count the number of sheets of plywood from crane to chipper hopper.

Ill go with 4 for useable space of about 32'
looks like a nice set up but a little tight. beats rigging and dragging though.

Nice work Norm and crew! How long did the total job take?

Was the tree rotted as bad as you thought, worse, or less?

[/ QUOTE ]

So???????

My guess, a full day was spent there.

40 tonner 105' 60 degrees about 9500 lbs so about 8000 lbs safe loads?? Thinking me and Bulls seven picks would work, maybe 10 for space between the houses. Again what was so nasty about it???????

Another of the same tree. By the way my nick name is 12:01 by my crew. I have a reputation to up hold, tree needs to be done by 12:01.

[/ QUOTE ]

If you moved out to the Pacific northwest you might have to change your name to 5:01 or perhaps 5:01 the second day. The trees out here can be a bit big.

So it went well Norm? Was the climber experienced or pretty new to crane work?

[/ QUOTE ]

It went as planned, 2 full days. I've done 2 other crane jobs with him. This was, by far, the biggest he's done. He was a little intimidated by the size and the shrooms. I went up to give him some moral support.

Nice job Norm. I counted 15 sheets, heck of a lot of plywood. Is that what the bucket was used for?

[/ QUOTE ]

The bucket wasn't used at all on the plywood. Plywood was for the crane and truck/chipper. The ground was still frozen, but we didn't want to chance damaging the lawn.

Yeah, beats the heck out of rigging and lowering in a confined space. Crane was really handy for the log work.

Sounds that way. Small LZ for the branch picks to be laid down....and compromised tree due to the decline, and mushroom presence. 59" is not small, either.

seems like it coulda been done in 1.5 days...but none of us where there but Norm.

Key is that is was done, and done safely.

Drop zone looks pretty small. I bet some of those pics were painfully small due to it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yep. You can cut a larger piece off, but you can't land it. Careful planning was in order.
Still, using a crane was much better than riggin it by hand.
