We have 2 fulltime operators and 2 others we call on occasion when an operator has a day off or vacation etc. These arent as simple as getting into a boom truck and going. You have to know how to ASK the computer to do what you want. Even taking the boom out of the cradle is a program. Looking up at 150' of stick, is a bit different too!
Not your typical boom either. These cranes run Hydroform (pretty sure thats the name) style booms. Made of thin, very high strength metals. They are huge compared to a standard truck crane boom. In the attached picture you can see the operator in the cab, the piston alone makes him look small! The boom is enormous in size. We run a 285lb ball as well which can be seen here.

If anyone missed that.... these cranes are freakin' huge, enormous, gigantic. Nothing like a simple boom truck. We are talkin' some big equipment here, not some tinker toy boom truck stuff.
If you are the operator and you want to take a sip of your coffee, you better know the computer program to do so.
They don't mess around, this is some serious equipment here!
