my new box!

Kevin,
When I had my ez dumper in the pickup it seemed tippy like you mentioned. I never had a problem with it in the years I ran it though, I went on several steep angles and over real rough and uneven terrain. You shouldnt have a problem with it.

That box looks really nice.

Bet that burnt lettering would be a nice touch. But it's fine as-is too.

Sweet Box.

That will look sweeter when it has some contact info on it.

I just passed the Anonymous Stump Grinding Service, which I think is a division of the Anonymous Tree Service group.

They had a grinder in the bed of the truck, and one on the trailer, but no money spent on signage and resulting "brand awareness", or some such concept...such as, "There's that same Treebing tree service that I see in my neighborhood periodically. Must be doing something right. I'll write down their contact info."

I know, all in time. The new box is great step. It is unique enough to be recognized on its own.

Good Work!

its funny, I know it could come across as shady, but as of yet I don't have a "business" phone. nor have I given much thought to a logo. I definitely want to get there, I just dont want my personal number plastered everywhere for people to see. Right now I am more concerned about getting myself presentable enough for my current customers sake, not the needs of customers I dont have and dont necessarily want.

I tried getting a business number one time but that was a failure because that needs to happen with marketing and I have refrained from exerting myself on marketing. One thing I cant stand is the phone ringing all day and people pissed off because I cant handle dealing with their needy selves. I am working on a logo but nothing has satisfied me. Kind of like getting a tatto I imagine. I dont have one of those either. I like the idea of burning an engraving into the wood. what would you use for that?

One step at a time.

Don't mean to step on your toes, or make it sound like you aren't doing enough, fast enough.

I just meant it as encouragement in your business growth. Logos or a dedicated business line don't mean anything about quality, necessarily. Short term signs are available really inexpensively. Could just be services available, with or without a phone number. Maybe you just go word of mouth, or stick to the people that approach you while working as they can see your work and are likely within your target work area. I have signs on my trucks that say "Ask us about your trees!", as an invitation of sorts that says that they aren't going to be bothering us (necessarily) by approaching us while working.

I don't have a personal phone seperate from my business phone. I just use on mobile phone for all my needs.

People almost always get a kick out of it when the conversation goes somthing like, "...okay, I'll be glad to meet with you. I don't have paper and pen available to me right now because I'm 60' up a _______ tree. So could you call back and leave me your contact info on the vm?"

"What? You're in a tree? Oh I didn't mean to disturb you... "

Me: "No problem, I'm just hanging out. I wouldn't have picked up if I was too busy. I'm the principle climber and am out on every job to ensure safety and quality, so sometimes I answer the phone from the tree."

I'm sure it would be strange to hear the person answering the phone is in a tree if they were calling roto-rooter.

Hey Bing, Your idea of simplicity is a marketing strategy in its self. Big flashy ads and equipment give people the idea that you charge a lot, especially in a recession. Best thing I ever did was to cut that yellow pages ad. I find that if people put effort into finding you, the job is pretty much yours. Nice box BTW.

Why does the phone company even need to know that you're using a phone line for business? Is it unethical to get a second personal line and use it for business? I did that for years until I went in the YPs. Then I had to pay the higher rates.

Like Jim, getting out of the YP 'Yellow Fever' was a great marketing move for me.

no, thats not what I meant tom. I meant that I hate it when my phone rings too much and so I need to be real careful about who gets my phone number. Right now, word of mouth keeps me busy and whenever I expand, than I can start showing off numbers. Low and Slow for me baby.

Here is a pic of Gilbert loading a spruce log. It needed both of us on the 3:1. I want to set up a permanent 5;1 there, this was the first experiment, it worked well.

another, sliding it to the back. I think this will save us a lot of back. The wood didnt even creak, granted spruce is about the lightest wood we ever have to deal with.

I paid a little under $2700 installed with head board. It has paid for itself many many times over already. The flexibility. I can take the box off with the tractor and load logs in 10' lengths (tailgate down). Throw the box back on and chip into it.
