Gunner hambone was born in August 2012 passed away August 2019. He was a parvo puppy whom survived through it and became the best ol hound dogg I ever did know! He passed away today from kidneys failing due to the parvo damage to organs and it was hard to usher him through to his final resting place. His father I first met when my cousin brought him home to my pops and his half and half brindle colored pitbull and black labrador features and were amazing with the skills and he possessed and true grit amazed me . 7 years later after bear bones, whos gunners father moved to Idaho springs Colorado, and met a retired grand champion duck dog, a Chesapeake bay retriever, so I'm told, named Little Ann, who was a resident in the neighbor hood. Well i guess she found ol bear or he forced himself upon her, irresistible like, and the two made a beautiful litter of pups. My cuz calls me and says I heard your coming out to CO for visit , and I did . Well ol gunner boy was the pick of the litter and was awesome dogg.. i brought back to Nj where i live and gunner immediately gets sick within a week. The vet says the normans who owned little Anne didnt vaccinate and dumb me didn't ask.. 5k later for life support from red bank vet hospital and gunners true grit he survived it . They told me he may be thin and parvo caused irrepairable organ damage that they can't determine. Let me tell you that dogg could out run the wind , out swim the current and listened like a person. Jumped higher grasshopper and barked louder than thunder when he wanted. Would bring you the biggest log out of the woods for fetch and wouldn't quit till your arm was tired! Type of dog when he herd a bang, would bark at moon, a siren would howl for the victim , and lightning and thunder made him act like a storm! Jumping ,poping , and barking at every bolt in the sky! Never had one enemy,, in fact folks I didn't know somehow knew his name on a walk around the block and said their dogs loved coming by for visits to see him ... as he was the type to stay in his yard open and free as the greeter with no fence to await our arrival home as he protected it.I wish I could elaborate more he was so awesome..An ex employee of mine once who tried to enter the property without permission met a different Gunner who sunk his teeth in the forearm after he was known to be up to no good and shouldn't have been there at my yard. The little kids could pull his ears and lips by the food bowl and jump on him sound asleep and he'd never even growl.. He would follow me for days and every time I would lay on the ground to work on a vehicle or whatever he would come to lick my face and make sure I'm good.. maybe I'll post some Gunner stories to this thread later , as time fleets away and I think of them, whilst I sip a whiskey for my buddy. Today was a rough day laying down my best friend. If anyone can share a story about their Dog please share. I need to hear it !20180112_132158.jpg

I’m so sorry man.
Not very different than burying a dear (human) friend... according to some it’s even harder. I get it I think. Even a best friend or brother might fight and argue and be a pain in the ass at times but your dog will love you and think you’re the greatest, always.

By all means, have some drinks, savor some memories, and do what you want to cope. If you’re feeling worse tomorrow though it’s probably because you added a powerful depressant to a sad day. I’d be doing the same. My chihuahua is 12 and I know her time isn’t long.

I think you really are one of the nicest guys on this forum and it hurts to see you hurting bro. Such is life though. You’re supposed to be sad and grieve. You gave that pup more than most would’ve and in doing so gave him years! Happy years too I bet.

Condolences Treetop. A good dog, and especially a good old dog is one of my favorite things in life. It sound like you and Gunners were thick as thieves and best buds, so be thankful for the time you got to spend together.

This is my old boy Floyd right after he lost his front leg and shoulder to a rattlesnake.
We almost lost him to that fucking snake 7 years ago, but he will be 13 in a few days and is still going strong and dumber than a box of rocks!

Man, he sounds like the best dog anyone has ever had. Mine is a whole lot less epic, but she makes up for it by being a fluff.

When I got Chill her ears were pretty much full sized, even though she was just a couple of months old. After a few more months, her head had grown into them enough that one stood up. I told her as seriously as I could that if she ever stood the other one up, I'd snip the base of it and it would be floppy forever because it is so damned cute.
I think she believed me. It just never stood up.

Stella likes car rides.
Rescued from a puppy mill.
Her teeth are pretty damaged, vet says she may have tried chewing out of a crate at the puppy mill, or at any rate she chewed on something harder than her teeth. So far no signs of pain and we look daily for any inflammation.
Spoiled rotten now and I feel she deserves to be after living in a crate only to breed for her first 4 years.

That is a happy dog.

So sorry to hear about your dog Treetop. I know how hard it is to lose your buddy. My parents had a pit bull female they rescued and Lucy Dog was the best dog my family ever had. She watched my girls like a hawk and wouldn’t let any car in the driveway if they were outside. She scared away the in-home PT guy when he came to work on my dad’s knee. All she had to do was lift her head and curl a lip. Never growled or barked. Just made it known that she would deal with that dude with extreme prejudice if he touched my dad. My youngest kid could ride her like a pony, pull her ears, and Lucy Dog would just look at me, sigh, and let Naomi do whatever. Kinda chocking up thinking about her. The day she died I cried the hardest I have in ten years. I’m having a shot of Knox Whiskey Works Dragon Tail in Gunner’s memory. So sorry Treetop.

Thank you all for your condolences. This is helping the hurt. Took a day off work today cause i don't want my head in the clouds while it should be in the trees.
