Mulch Volcanoes

Pet peeves? Parking my truck in any lot where all the trees have been sheared with a hedge trimmer. All they had to do was... Nothing!

So what do you find the most effected?

Did you mean "effective" ?

If effective, I find either chips or bark mulch about the same for function, except the bark decomposes quite a bit slower.

Wood chips yield more mushrooms with some people don't like, but I find them sort of interesting.

Sorry you're right md I must have been tired typing that one.

As for how much how often, for my personal trees a little lighter on thickness but an annual top up. But customers usually every 2-3 years.

One other technique, I have tried at home, a 2 1/2" auger bit and I go around the drip line of our small spruce (maybe 20') then I take an even split of aged woodchips and aged manure stir together then pack tight down the holes.

This was in heavy clay soil and a proper mulch circle covered the area so it looks fine. I think the trees did great for the next couple years.

I used manure and mulch cause I have more than lots of each for free. Does any one else do this on condominium sites or other sites with not ideal soils etc?
