Most underrated gear

We were chatting the other day about your most simple, basic underrated slings that we use to follow the KISS rule. I thought I'd bring it here to reminisce and ask.

I think the lowly figure 8 could be the most underrated, simple cheapest rigging device. In a pinch it can be used as a lowering device, a rigging plate, a self leveling spider leg thingy using a single piece rope, it can advance a Prussic like a small pulley. Used as a slider for a zip line.
Not great for any of those uses granted, but if it was all you had it would do many jobs if push came to shove.

I can use a simple ring for any of those, and it would also be not quite as good as the 8 at most of them.
The small dyneema webbing slings are lifesavers though. My vote goes there.

Rope. Imagine your munter hitch without it. Imagine dragging a goddamned chain up a tree.

We love rope though. We all argue about tiny differences that make one better than another. It is held in high regard. I feel we are getting away from the original premise of the thread.

8s probably get less credit than rings nowadays, even though they do everything rings can do. I think I was off course earlier as well.

On another tangent, I feel bark doesn't get enough credit. I climbed a freshly lightning struck poplar with the trunk bark blown off. Terrible tree. I was missing the bark then.

If we are doing tangents - I'd say each of my fingers is worth $20,000. Highly underrated and taken for granted - my silky teeth seem to find a knuckle once a month. However, as an owner / operator, haven't found insurance that will pay that if I lose one.
