more fun with knucklebooms

Tell that "unknown" man to put some chaps on.

Never mind, I'll tell him.

Nice pix/picks, Mike. I'm guessing you must chock that huge butt to keep it from rolling and beating up your truck?

Just thinking how great that tree squeezer would be mounted on Mike Poor's knuckle boom ( remote controlled ) crane. Articulated, 100ft. reach & the ability to accomplish all of the above with both feet on the ground. A new era of tree work is on the horizon. www.bigbeaverretreever.net.

I was just thinking the same thing as I was watching a feller buncher pick trees out.

After trying to figure a way to do some type of grapple/crane set up for the last 10 years, i'm thinking it could only be used for non critical lifts! To protect your crane from all the extreme torsion forces on the boom, you would need a huge crane. Here is the largest knuckleboom in the world (see attachment)!!!!!!!!!

The remote for my knuckleboom has toggle switches and can be very touchy! One of my first days loading logs with it i nutted one of my guys with the hook. After he caught his breath he wasnt very happy about the whole situation. He never really did like the truck after that... Dont think he liked me too much for a while either.

Here is a pic of the Knuckleboom we use. It's a cormach, and it always suprises me how easy it handles large pieces. We also use a Cab-over truck, which leaves more room for a longer bed and the knuckleboom. I've been checking out some of PM's knuckle booms though. They look really nice.

Sorry folks I didn't see these recent replies on this thread. WWCTreeCrew that rig of yours looks real handy for getting in tight spots! I wanted a cab over for my crane but it wouldn't have been stable enough to work over the front. Jonb maybe your remote needs to reprogrammed, most remotes are very precise! Cameron to answer your "Q", the 220 ton K-boom costs aprox 700K! Thanks for all the replies! I'll try to posts more soon.
