Minnesota TCC

In reply to the question about judges being Certified Arborists. Since this is a MSA sponsored event at is supposed to represent the best practices of arborists, the TCC committee has required that all judges be CA. However, technicians, timers, volunteers and contestants do not have any requirements as far as certification.

Word is, we have 50 competitors this year and thus a two-day event! Can anyone verify this? I'm sure we need more volunteers/techs/judges. Contact George and Lynn if you'd like to help out. Only 20 days to go!

Word on the street is Central Park is full of squat jungle gym oaks. I also heard the footlock is going to be a little bouncy. Taylor, I still owe you some beers. Come find me after the comp and have a few with me.

Footlock bouncy?! Whadaya mean? Don't tell me they're using Lightning? If they use Lightning for the footlock I'm boycotting! ... or I will insist upon using my own rope. Definitely drinking lots of beer after the comp.

Ha! Cool picture, Russ.

I'm not trying to influence any judges!... but, hmmmmm, it sure would be nice to have a sponsor set me up with some new gear. Gee, I wish I knew someone with connections to an arborist supply...

Oh, and the "all beer diet" is working wonders!

Interesting point there guys.

Is sponsorship by an equipment supplier really fair to the others who don't have such a luxury? I suppose in the Internationals, anything goes. But at the local level I know we all have limited budgets and it just wouldn't seem right for certain climbers to get free equipment. Although I know that most companies provide their climber's gear for the comp so maybe it's a moot point.

Thoughts? G.W.?

Well now, thats a good question. I'll began by saying "the only thing I have free" is a Russ Lewis business card.

We (Vermeer) sponsor events. MSA events and as many others as I can or my bosses will let me.

Now, on the other hand, I'm a pretty lenient fellow. I've been known to lend people equipment (lockjacks, saddles, etc, or my own personal ropes) for days, even weeks. It's always with the intention of the customer getting GREAT SERVICE, or comparing like products, and maybe (maybe not) getting a sale at the end of the day.

As far as sponsoring one individual? Couldn't do it. Exactly for the reason you state. But if a deserving person came to me and say his rope was just the shits would I give him one of my ropes to compete with? In a heartbeat. Now if he made the masters...ha! now hes got to buy his own 150 footer. I wouldn't let anyone sit on the sidelines for not having a 15.00 dollar biner or an eye & eye.

OK??
