mini skidsteers and grapples

6t56 Here you go, Long time ago a bud made this one of an old Thomas pulling 30'cottonweed leads and feeding the chipper, (If the operator had a hyd rotation it would be one more thing to manage not to mention throwing the switch to activate the electric crossover rotation flow).

Jamin you are Nutz, Didn't I see you at some convention covorting with that 454 dude. I like the aerial shot of the Boxer pushing in the very clean mini lift. I lifted the Pic for my files. Should of talked to me B4 you fused that universal link.

Vermeer, I have seen this 36" grapple and it is built well enough, accept being attached very close to the mounting plate. This keeps the arms high making the machine less stable under a heavy load. check the picture out, - BMG, Ryans, & Squeezer all have elavated booms and universal knuckles to facilitate chipping. I don't think the engineers at vermeer ever chipped brush with a mini. Not meaning to bust your chops Noel still nothin better than drivin up to a pile and grabbin a jag of wood with those pinchers and riding out front.

Limbwalker and gang
I am sorry to here of your troubles with Boxer, Yours is the first I heard that have had that issue, sucks they did not take care of you they lost a good customer.

"Most of the mini's cost around 20k and the grapples will run about 2k".

Nuh uh Wagnaw, boxer is still runnin that 08 promotion new Gas 427 tracks's for 13K. and the 320's like Marks and Dans 10K (+ shipping)
Yep, 2K and some change for grapples

Thanks for all the compliments on the BMG, just call me if you ever have issues.

Derail, what do you all think of this

Dave at Top Notch told me he has smooth tracks for decreasing lawn damage.

[/ QUOTE ]

Leons MFG out of Canada makes Ramrod, thats the only company where I have ever seen slicks on a track machine. I turned some on the 905, it just glid(?) over the turf. minimal to know peeling. Hit a little patch of snow and she went nowhere and spun. Any wet job and on an incline and the slick tracks would be pretty worthless.

FamilyTree
I think people all over the country are over persnickedy about there lawns, specially folks with a lot of money. I remember pullin up to many a job with a nice swinger or a crappy old case davis scatback ) and the homeowner would whine "are you going to bring that on my lawn! gasp" never once heard that when I pulled up with a mini

I know you are but what am I.

I have a new agressive design where the points curl towards the center, no pics yet. you got me on the "log dog thingies bend a bit" . . . . thicker steel it is on the next batch. they are pointy nasty.

Jamin -- the grapple looks a little different now, all of the grapple surfaces had to be beefed up with 1/2" stock bent on the same curve as the grapple.

I didn't like moving logs with the grapple as much as forks (could load larger pieces and stack nicer on the truck), but the grapple could hold it's own.

has any one tried a kanga track 216? i have one and it has tracks on wheels so there is no up keep on it other than keeping air in your tires. it is only 31 inches wide and can lift about 300 lbs. i mounted a grapple on the stock bucket. the only thing i need now is a small stump grinder for it, than it would be perfect. it weighs about 950 lbs but it will pull a tree over better than two or three men, without complaining.

You're a pretty talented guy Carl, just think how much money Dave could make if he hired you.

I had the litte Powerhouse wheel version (Americanized Kanga), Very Tiny and powerful, never got around to making a grapple for it, (only 250# lift Cap) I am sure it would drag brush real nice. I moved and set my Deck beams with it, I loved it, Little light for treework, but better than a poke in the eye. fosure

Carl & Jim
I added the death spike to my design (John P came up with the Idea years ago), But man if you brushed your leg on the front of the grapple it would slice your thigh right open. Had to take them off.

So Dave, do you sell smooth tracks? How about not marking and smooth?

I think smooth tracks (in not slippery conditions) would be the way to go. ASV has them.

[/ QUOTE ]
I will check on the availability of these and cost.

they were black so I am sure they would mark concrete up

A pic I snapped at the factory

I have a fairly new Dingo 525 tx narrow, diesel with a Dingo grapple. It(the grapple) has some advantages and disadvantages but we find the Dingo a very refined machine and easy on the yard. We also got a tree ball hyd. pincher and it was great on a large planting job last fall. You can make as much or more on tree planting as tree work sometimes.

Also lucked into an 03 Bobcat MT50 diesel and put Dave's BMG on it (by the way Dave, it is fine now and it was the machine's prob and not your BMG). It is heavier and clumsier but we use it mainly around the lot with firewood and the Timberwolf stuff.

The Dingo grapple is horizontal and doesn't go as high as some but you can grab a piece the first try easily and it gets over the sides on my dump trailer or in the opened door on my big dump trucks. Only problem is we have to usually choke a pile of branches to drag them.

Cannot imagine any of these machines being better than the Dingo. It has 5 pumps and will fit thru a 35 inch gate.
