Mini skids?

we use a vermeer 600 with tracks, you can get tracks or wheels, and you can get gas power or a kubota diesel. vermeer sells a really nice grapple that goes with it, it is awesome for dragging big piles of brush out of back yards. I would make my decision on available service for the machine. we have a vermeer dealership here in town, so my chippers are all vermeer, too. quick access to service has been a huge plus for me.

I am glad this subject was brought up. I am looking around too. I have used the Toro Dingo 525TX many times. I like it.

However, it looks like Boxer blows out all of the competition when it comes down to comparing specs. The draw back of tracks is mats/plywood has to be moved around on turf. And it marks driveways.

The thing I have to deal with often is large cottonwood tree removals in back yards.

Yes, the BMG does fit the Boxer if I remember right from a previous post. Were looking at a few too. We think we might have enough money to buy a Boxer or Vermeer tracked machine, instead of a wheeled one. As far as marking driveways I would think wheels may do it also, though I've never seen a tracked machine do it.(our buddys larger skid steer also marks driveways and its wheeled)

Also, Noel, how do you like your Vermeer grapple and mini skidsteer??

Yes the bmg will fit the boxer.we have a 526 on tracks and it doesnt really leave marks on driveways-unless you spin in circles alot but they just wash off.

Both wheeled and track machines can mark the heck out of concrete if you're not careful. It's true that the marks wash off over time but a lot of people don't like to look at black skid marks in their driveway. A good operator goes a long way. The less you skid around, the longer your rubber lasts too.

We're running a Bobcat MT-52 with a ho-made grapple, forks and 4-in-1 bucket. The nice thing about the cat is that you can use any regular size bobcat attachments. A big bucket is nice for cleaning up stump grindings...

It's by far our best employee. Always on time, never talks back and works harder than everyone else!

I've rented my share of boxer 526's and here are some struggles with the machine. You bring it on to help with the big jobs in tight areas but you can only load it barely in the back of the truck because it can only reach the back of the truck. Then two to three guys have to push forward the item to the back of the truck. The other thing is safety. You ride on the back of it. As you shake around with the load, you could back into material, house etc. and it's your back that hits the item. The price for these are 2/3 of a real skider that has way more balls.

We have been using a ASV 60 with green tracs and you don't tear up anything! It has a very low back with lots of visability unlike other brands, can lift two to three times more-3,800 lbs tip load than a boxer, has tripple the horse power, can lift twice as high, you can practically do zero turns and no screwed up lawn or nothing, and is only $8,000 dollars more than a boxer guys. Yes it weighs 6,350 lbs versus the 2,450 boxer but the ASV has WAY WAY more surface area of trac so the total ground pressure per square inch is 3.6 lbs! Also if your like me, I can't stand going slow and the boxer creeps at a top speed of 3.7 MPH! An ASV 60 goes 11 MPH! With a high-low hydralic rate. Flow is really high when you have 11 Gal. of Hyd fluid.

So, yes I can't fit through the 36" gate because mine is 59" wide----so take out a section of fence. If it's chian link it will take you 5-10 min to do it. I'll even use the machine to pull up a post with the asv and re-cement it when I'm done. And,.... If its really that tight just rent a crane and put it all in the road! If you aren't carefull that boxer is a pro at lawn screw up.

..........Just my thoughts.

Man you know how to seriously play with a fellows dreams of owning a mini-skid!

Yeah the ASV was my first choice but alot of my clients have fences, walls or Iron gates you cannot remove so it wasnt practical for me.Also we load ours into a dump trailer and it loads it just great.Sometimes that can be pain getting in the back of the chip box pushing logs forward but for us it better than man handling them out of the back yard.If we had alot of space Id go with ASV for sure.

nah.....go bigger for full size machine...let the BOXER dominate on the small stuff

Well I guess its all about the type of volume you're doing. I couldn't justify the mini skid as a small machine.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>"nah.....go bigger for full size machine...let the BOXER dominate on the small stuff"<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I use an ASV 100 for the bigger one, but couldn't make a boxer dominate for me as the small guy in Michigan. The USA is huge along with all the different job situations. Any machine is WAY WAY better than a guy's back. I'm not raining on any one's parade.

Large dump trailer for material and mini skid would certainly maximize the Boxer! Nice!
