Mini Skids

FYI...
So the quote I got for a new 323 with bucket and BMG is @$18,200. I know he is padding the BMG by $200. You can by them with free shipping for $2700 he has it listed as $2900. Bucket is listed as $625 and the Dingo is $13,100. Another $1,000 for tax. That used 220 or Ramrod 500 is looking better. Lol

No. Slow.

I load at 41" and 44". You know when the tipping point is coming. I ride it, or get on/ off the platform and pull/ push down. Pivots right over.

Wheels might need smoother ramps????

I go into my chip box at 44" heavy- end downhill, due to the shape of the machine, the rock-over nature of tracks, and a ~4.5' chip box height ( 1" of clearance when the machine is flat). Two cans, no big deal.

No need for smoother ramps for wheels. My Thomas and DW navigate the ramps with about the same roughness. Noticed today the rear idler drops into every space on the ramps which might make wheels a little smother (tire is bigger).

Frank when you are out this way you should stop by and run the DW up into the trailer to see the transition. It's really not bad. Ran the Thomas for a couple hours today and couldn't believe how rough it is compared to the DW (control wise).
Ps we should talk about your availability for a large project I got going. And maybe about a new home for tommy!

Yes, I feel this, also. Didn't put my finger on where the roughness originated. Tires will conform better to the roughness, I suspect, upon this insight about the idler/ drive gear (my track is a flat configuration, not triangular).

I'm not familiar with how the flat track set up handles it. My 1050 has the hi-track. So from what I saw yesterday the idler is smaller than the wheel making it drop harsher into the gaps, but the track meditates how far down it goes. So between the two machines I thought they were about equal. I was actually considering buying a set of aluminums from discount ramps to replace my dump trailer ramps to smooth things out a bit. Really the only time it gets scetchy is after I set an implement down in the trailer and back out to get another (mostly when flat or back pointed down hill).

So pending approval I went all in today, for me at least. Avant 420, Bucket, BMG Grapple, and a Nova dump trailer. Wasn't quite ready to commit but the package deal was just to good and I can always find away to make money with them. I am only moderately stressed out, lol.

Hysterical, dang auto fill.

Trailer is a bit overkill at 14,400 but I will probably register it at only 10,000 to avoid Pa over 10,000 rules. It also keeps my combo under 26,000 which may also matter. Trying hard to stay away from anything CDL I can. DOT regs are confusing enough.

What does the trailer weigh?

So I am starting to look at mini's, key word "mini". Does anyone run the Toro 323 or similar? I want 4 wheels, gas and under 2,000 lbs. The wheels are only debatable if you are loading it with ramps into your chip truck sometimes as I will be also. I want gas because my truck and chipper are gas so I can carry 1 spare fuel. I want less than 2,000 lbs so I can store and transport it with my enclosed trailer when needed. Thanks.

I'm not convinced about the 2k lbs. limit argument... build your rig around your machine. Select your machine based on your market. Prioritize wood management.

Frank, that setup will be considered a cdl rig behind your truck. Under registering does not change it as they go off, actual weight, registered weight, or gvwr, which ever is higher. See if they can get you a 10,000 lbs gvwr on the tag or get a 10k trailer and upgrade the axles. The tag on the trailer has to be 10k or less or it's cdl time if your over 26k combined.

Yep that's my concern. 13,300 truck & 14,400 trailer puts me at 27,700 and CDL A in Pa. Best as I can figure at least. I also don't know that I need a 14ft long trailer. However it does allow me to load 7500 lbs of stuff plus the Avant. I'm just now starting my first DOT inspection so I am just having loads of fun sorting out and trying to comply lol.
