master gardeners

From the feedback so far it is apparent that this is an international phenomena.

Many love to flash their title and opinions around on matters relating to our skill set/education, but a pole saw and a two day seminar makes an arborist not. Absolutely nothing against the horticultural content delivered at MG programs I might add.

The going rate for Master Gardeners lately = Labour of love to the extreme.

They are awful as a breed. Total pathological nightmares. Even pimps, thieves, and degenerates cross the road when they see a "master gardener" coming. They are bad for trees and wrong for America.

Old fascist ideologues, and we're talking mostly Nazis here, loved the term "master" for the exaggerated sense of control it implies. Even violently rascist propagandists spoke of an "herrenvolk", which roughly translates into a pile of rat bastards who think they have the right to dominate the landscape.

One time I was doing a bid for a lady and she mentioned something about being a "master gardener" . . . I pretended not to hear it, and when she turned her attention to a row of boxwoods, I slipped away unseen and climbed over the back fence and got away. That was a close one!

I work with the campuses master gardener at times (I am the ox, get hose, compost, flowers, and whatever she needs). At times she can get a little to bossy about trees and how to trim them. I danced around this tree for about 30mins took 2 branches off and asked if she was going to move the plants now because they went from shade to sun. 1 for me and 4 moved plants for her.

I work with a Master gardener all the time, she is my wife. We definitely take completely different approaches to landscaping and pruning. Truthfully we both have our own places in the yard that we landscape and maintain it is just better that way.The approach is different but the results are similar.

Master Gardener = Beginning Gardener

The main difficulty with the program is probably that the title is misleading. Worldwide, the idea of "master" is usually associated with training or apprenticeship that is more like a full 3 years, 7 years or 10 years. Whether electrician, martial arts, etc..

The amount of training for a "Master Gardener" is really what would amount to a beginner when viewed from a professional or competitive point of view.

Compared to the full scope of gardening and horticulture, its more like being a neophyte. The information is really good. But its still the tip of the iceberg.

That's hilarious. It's in a close tie with this one by the same member:

Dragons would swoop down on plump little pigs and carry them to their doom, and Catholic priests are drawn to fat little choir boys in much the same way.

Those examples seem to lead to dead ends, even in the loose sense of conversation.

My wife hates it when I weigh in on that subject.
