That's a really nice thing for you to say, thank you.

I like groundies a lot but they get bored easily and I do mostly residential maintenance. I have some good ones I hire for rigging and takedowns. Usually though, I like working alone when I'm free falling stuff, pruning or digging. The risk is indeed unnecessary... but I love it. Been that way my whole life.

I'm glad to see you posting. You think you can make it to Geezers this year? It's been too long.

its really funny you guys are blasting marbars as every major tree company in memphis uses them on their production crews.

Good point Jeff, that's a great case for never using Marbars.

sadly unlikely. was just reading the geezers thread and imagining the party. i bought a 3br/2ba 1928 "fixer" (read: dump) this summer and it's claiming every spare penny and moment of my time. should have it fairly under control this time next year though... (please, god)

sorry for another derail..

Paul Sisson's Mar Bars are the upper end of the tool kit. There are NO shortcomings and they are bomb-proof.

Backups...??? Lots of discussion of this elsewhere. Having two attachment points is much more difficult than on a single rope...IMO. When I used MB's I set them up with only one CMI. This made it super easy to clip a biner through the top hole to capture the rope. Also, using a chest ascender with a bungee or neck/shoulder strap is the best safety system...IMO.

Personally, I have GLeasy bars too. A very nice setup that is bomb proof too.

Most of the time the GLs are used for foot ascenders when someone is brand new and I don't want to go through using a Pantin with them. Another use for them is in the snowy part of winter when I wear my Sorel pack boots. The strap on my Pantin doesn't fit around those boots and footlocking with boots that are so huge is a real challenge. It can be done though.
