Man vs. Earth

So the world lives on , after people are extinct, taking many other species with them?

In another thread, Oceans used a great term "tree time." My interpretation was that we often cannot consider time as a tree would, a much slower and longer game. As stated in the video, we have 3 seconds of perspective.

In a very short time (from the perspective of the life of the Earth) any trace of the existence of our species could easily disappear.

....But I question the phrase 'self sustainable'. I think if there is a change it must involve 'community sustainability'....

I have some thoughts on this.

It is unrealistic to expect from others things you are not willing to do.

An individual can not change the world but can change themselves. If enough individuals follow suit so will the world. Strength of the individual is key.

This world and this life is an incredible gift. We are given both a heart and a brain, we need to use both or what is the point of having them.

Haha! Simple thoughts from a simple mind. Don't waste your life fighting the cards you have been dealt just play them as best as you can. If life was easy, rocks would be a lot more active.

Good points DSMc. Lead by example. I just wonder what ways the simple, better way of living could be sold to the people who live the louder showier way of life.

I missed the show?. Will there be more episodes do you know? What's your one thing Redtree? I clean up trash alot randomly when I'm out around town , yell at scumbags dumping their car ashtrays in the parking lot ,that sorta thing : )... Drive my little four banger car to look at jobs instead of the diesel truck.. Selling Tree preservation, while one of my competition co. slogan are " don't let trees stand in your way"... Limit my waste as best as possible through recycling useful things. Put my two young girls in the tub together. Yell at my older kids to be quick in the shower ..Hang clothes out on the line to dry...compost bin ... I don't know..I think there's more..I'm scratching the surface ..surely.. Open for ideas .. Was my intent with this thread

I forgot to mention I help turtles and snakes across roads. That's huge too ..habitat D fragmentation.. Could be a paying job someday in conjested areas...

Treetopflyer, Those are good things and great to share. I've been debating an alternative to driving my 3500 gmc diesel with just me in it. A year ago I looked into a diesel Passat wagon. Extremely efficient car and I could carry some gear too. But it was going to be a higher insurance rate than my truck, for a 2005 Passat. Crazy. And I wanted to keep the truck for work logistics. Anyway maybe it's time to trade the truck in for a car and let my guys pull the chipper and loads full time.
Otherwise, I very rarely purchase a coffee, or idle in the drive through waiting for one in a non recyclable cup. For the American viewer, we Canadians are horrible for Tim Hortons coffee cup waste. I make my own and use a steel traveler. Organic rainforest friendly coffee. Better than that, for me and the world, would be to give it up completely.
Ultimately I have done very little, and not consuming cups is hardly helpful.
So I guess my main thing is tree preservation. I'd love to add up the trees I've saved. And good point about the turtles. The racing extinction program last night mentioned how basically all turtles are threatened.
Any vehicle alternative suggestions? Hybrid half ton ? I'm sceptic. Alternatives were a primary part of the solution in last nights program.

Ok I got up out of bed for this one. Been rolling around since I saw the video and the racing extinction special, while sitting conveniently on the beach.
Recently, I said to a nature lover in Australia that trees aren't a nuisance, people are. At the Same time I saw beautiful Australian Pines in Florida. The biggest trees on Fort Myers beach. As beautiful as a Norway Maple in Toronto. I've also said to clients, 'the worst European invasive species is you and me, not that tree'. We get that title by a long shot too. Forget about removing these invasives. Manage them. Removing them presents a huge carbon footprint. Consider not just the carbon storage in the wood, but the carbon expended in the process. Chipping. Trucking.
Don't plant invasives, just like we should limit ourselves to one offspring max. I have two that I love, but I think I'll suggest to my boys, the life of the bachelor, or one kid max. Two wives maybe, but one kid or less. The biggest threat to the western man is the western man himself. Ok enough pointing out the darkness. The light of the situation is that we might get a few more decades or centuries out of this planet if we advocate for more minimalistic ways. Or would it be too dark to say 'limit our greedy consumption'. It's not only the producer, but also the demand of the consumer.
People at home in Toronto area complain about the house prices. A new house average = $960000. The used house average = $750000. Smaller families, bigger houses. It's our own fault. The solution-STOP DEMANDING 3000-4000 SQUARE FOOT HOMES, and then setting the heat at 72. To top it all off, ivory silk lilac in the backyard, boxwoods in front. The solution -PLANT BIG TREES ON SMALL LOTS, EVERY LEAF COUNTS.

If we all start with one thing? What's your one thing? ....

Search for what is true. How can you walk the right path if you don't know what it is. Understand that almost everything that is currently available and most of what is considered " common knowledge " is stated from a perspective, it may have more to do with something other than the truth. Do not just read and regurgitate but chase down the reasons behind what is being said. We are very good at looking under microscopes and isolating " the problem " while completely missing all the other interlinking and often, critical factors.

Life is strange.

Try to imagine a future where man lives in space and Earth is one giant zoo populated by plants and animals who's genomes have been recovered by man.

As we start on our journey of creating transgenetic organisms we will come to the realization that the greatest resource is Gaia's genetics.

Man's future is beyond any of our imaginations.

Life is fine.

I like this DSMc.....I want to bring up an example of something we all tend to believe in, for it seems to dominate our reality. Yet we hardly ever question if it is real or not.

Am I the body?

If not, what am I?
