That's pretty cool, The braiding rope machine must be wild to watch in action. I learned how to do a 2 strand by using thread wrapped multiple times between 2 points, hold on one point and start twisting the other with a pencil until its pretty tight, hold tension on the pencil while you grab the center of the twist, connect the 2 ends .anchor to pencil. and relieve the tension on the center point and it will wrap the 2 up as a rope a little less than half the length of the to outside points you wrapped in the beginning. Would come in handy in a survival situation if someone had some extra clothing.

Actually if you can learn the knot used in making fishing nets you could make it work. Great idea BTW.

I believe that a sheet bend, or a variation of the reef knot are some of the knots used for fishing nets. I watched a guy making a net, they used a pop bottle as a gage to keep all the holes in the net even.
