Mail-in chain sharpening service

@Merle Nelson Just talked with Bob at Madsen's. He confirmed the 0.025 to 0.035" progression.

Predictably, harder wood should have less increase in raker offset.

Mostly conifers and soft hardwoods, here, but live and dead madrona and occasionally Oregon White/ Geary oak, too. I haven't had a bogging down issue moving from soft to hard wood with the same chain.

Bump. I've still got to send off same chains to be trued up as 4 years ago - I'll call Razorsharp on Friday.

I just bought another couple of 100 foot reels of chain. Saw them at about $600 per reel at one place and thought that's about 100% higher than last I bought. Called Madsens and they said just over $300. (Stihl chain.)

Then I asked if they could make up half the two different reels into loops of my two most used chains. $2 or 3 per loop to make them up out of my 100 foot reel - twist my arm.
Full skip 3/8, 0.050" Stihl is currently $329 for round or square grind.

$2.50 per loop made.

Treestuff used to sell a devise that tensioned a chain on a bar, without the powerhead. Great for sharpening chains in a vice. It's not made anymore. If someone has one laying around, collecting dust, I'm game for a purchase.

:)
Great device or idea. People beat the inventor down on that. "Too expensive", "Not needed".

"Tree Machine" who also marketed throw line winders that were "Too expensive " through TreeStuff. If anyone has one of those I would love to buy it.

I would give a toe off my right foot for a really good throwline winder..

I would like one of these myself and have considered making one or several as I also own a machine shop. D009 big mount husky is what I was planning on making it fit for sure.

If you ever do, LMK. I'd be in for a D009 and the Sthil mount. I forget the number designation on that one off hand.

I don't recall different models on the original though. You would think there would have to be. At least between different pitched bars.

I have one that is just kicking around. Make me an offer.
