Looks like a group called careercast thinks lumberjacks have the worst job in the nation. I wonder if we qualify as arborists.

200. Lumberjack
Change from ranking on 2013 list: Down 1Midlevel income: $24,340Key factors for ranking: work environment (ranked worst of all 200 jobs), income and outlook

Lumberjack comes close to the bottom for nearly every factor, from the job being dangerous to low income. But it's also taken a hit on the outlook as the construction industry slumps and the newspaper industry shrinks. Plus, technological advancements are quickly replacing the need for humans in the wood-harvesting process.

Tree work is fun. Arboriculture is a rewarding career choice if you are cut out for it.

Money will come if you work smart and enjoy your job, regardless of career choice.

I read somewhere that arborist earnings compare to doctors and lawyers. As a very small business I have personally sold over six figures in one year more than once.

I have a friend who owns a LARGE tree service and they average almost 1 mil per year in sales. I have no idea what he nets, but even half of that would be good.

I run a 3 mil a year(ish) trim dept. I don't see how u could even come close to 50% profit for a year. Anywhere from 12-20% is more like it. Def a larger percentage if u r including spray in the numbers. I'm sure some to better. And if u do, nice work. As a production climber at heart(and in practice) I would have to blame the salesperson for this profit margin.;)

As a small business, with no employees , and barely any equipment , I average 50/50 or around there every year

for example : 115,000 gross sales - 18,000 clam pick ups - 38800 part time sub climber with his own assistant to rope = 58200 - fuel and food and light maintenance on minimal tools and equipment = almost 50% profit, and mostly only sales and some truck driving

Yeah she helps out in the office, she's pretty awesome

Our main goal is to help people save money by not having improper tree work done which is damaging and all too common
