Looking for a saddle

Alright, I like to assend with a single fixed tie in, in the front, but once in the tree I prefer a floating tie in. So far the only saddle I have found that allows for this is the Versatile, but I am not convinced it is that great of a saddle. So is there any other saddle that allows this? Is their anyone that has good reviews on the Versatile? Or is my best bet to just grow a pair and deal with the constant floating tie in that is found on most of the better saddles?

Thanks, and Happy Climbing

Hi
The Treeflex from Paolo have both. Just had it in my hand a couple of days before it was ripped away by some eager buyer. Great saddle - buy one!
Cheers

You might try a treemotion,a butterfly II or a glide. There may be others that I am unaware of but these three all have fixed and floating options for your climbing pleasure. Everything I've heard, read, or seen of the treemotion says that it's the cat's a$$! And I am Happy Climbing.

Tree motion......This is the MOSt comfotable saddle I have ever had. WELL worth the money

True, but...

The Treemotion doesn't have a fixed tie in point to be used for access. The Treeflex has.

I wasn't aware that the saddles you mention have a fixed attachment??? Could you explain your reasoning? They all look like floating ring/sliding bridge saddles to me?

Where was your avatar taken? snow tops or glaciers?

Fast,

Treeflex has a single point for SRT that is very comfortable. After I get into the tree I loosen the shoulder straps on my chest ascender and leave it on for the rest of the climb. The floating bridge takes over for the rest of the climb.

Treeflex looks pretty sweet, is it ANSI approved? Are their any dealers in The States that are offering it? Would deffinatly like to try it out before I bothered having it shipped across the sea.

Thanks for your interest Fast.

There are plans to sell in the states, only Safety Technology Ltd don't currently distribute there. It is not currently ANSI approved, partly because it isn't clear what the approval entails. It is rated to EN813 though (cert attached). STL will sell direct to end users.

There are a couple of size medium TFX in the states. Maybe their owners will take them to TCIA expo for others to get a closer look?

I hope that helps.

Attachments

I use a treehopper climbing harness. the Treehopper is favoured by technical climbers and is used at competition levels around the world. It has a low central attachment point and is designed for body thrust climbing by being positioned as close to the hips as possible.
I also have a Bee Arborist Harness that has the added durability and the ability to replace the front suspension strap in case of wear.
Both of these are similiar to the Glide saddle.
I found mine at Action Arborist Supplies, in north Georgia.

Hi JP

TFX will not be for sale in Hawaii, though it may be there.

We are working on it being available to the states soon.

Thanks for your continued interest.

196.50 EUR = 265.282 USD. Check there website. I believe it is on sale, not sure what shipping and taxes would be though.

Just to confirm, the quoted price of 196.5 is pounds stirling, not Euros (heaven forbid!

)
196.50 GBP = 391.655 USD plus shipping and import taxes.

In the UK, that puts TreeFlex in line with other top end harnesses. Exported to the states makes it about double the next most expensive harness.

We are working on a way round this expensive exchange of currency.

After 20 years climbing in a wide range of harnesses:- I recently changed to TreeFlex. It is the most comfortable so far used; work position great; nice (but not alarming!) range of movement along the bridge; also like the fixed tie in point.

As I stated in a previous post, it still has not given me the magical powers that many of the top climbers possess, and no matter what harness I selected it would not. I purchased it solely because it is the correct selection for me and consequently my hips and lower back are starting to feel like part of my body again!
