Looking for a saddle

Lazarus, The rope bridge in all three of these saddles terminates in two fixed rings made of aluminum. I have used the butterfly and glide, and my coworker just got the treemotion. I too sometimes like to attach my carabiners to those aluminum rings from time to time if I want to shorten up my system, ie, working down a spar. My avatar was taken in the Khumbu valley, Nepal, that's Everest poking her head up above the top of Lhotse, to the left and, my personal favorite, Ama Dablam, to the right. We are about a day's hike above Namche Bazaar. I am on my way back to Kala Pattar and Everest Base Camp in that pic. Sorry for the delay in response.

So (on the Glide for instance) you attach a single biner through the rings on either end of the bridge to your life line to work as a fixed centeral attachment?? Hu, wonder why I never thought of that. Is it comfortable?? I would think it might make things fit kinda tight and not quite as it is suppose to.

yes, one biner through each ring. I climbed that way for at least three years. I switched to the bridge when I got the treemagic saddle because it has sliding Ds on the bridge, and it puts the carabiners in an orientation that I prefer. I would bet that the single ring on the tree motion and butterfly II would act in a similar fashion. I am sure that any way you look at it, the rings are in about the same position, unless, I guess, you are right up by the friction saver, but that's when I use them that way, and I have not had any problems with pinching or knee knock etc. Hope that helps.

I see what you mean HC; sort of a makeshift anchor. Is that as a split tail system (one end of the line on each ring) or bringing the krabs together? Depends how small the climber is too (distance between the rings).

The Himalaya huh...very nice!

It was with reluctance that I tried the Treeflex harness over the weekend but I’m pleased to report that I was very impressed.

I’d made a conscious effort not to get caught up in the current harness-mania trend some time ago and was convinced that the smart move would be to exhaust my old harness so to get my moneys worth. Not so smart as it turns out!

The Treeflex fit me like a mould with almost immediate effect. Comfort, body alignment, manoeuvrability etc, plus great visibility of all the significant linkages. Also, Id forgotten what it was to have uninhibited breathing. It is truly amazing how the body must learn to tolerate discomfort. However, my current harness will now be binned very shortly.

If you are like I was and think you are being clever in hanging on to some old sh$t because it owes you more mileage, then I would now suggest that this is false economy and you should at least be trialing your next set of kit.

I am now looking forward to trying the Treemotion, Magic and Kolibri etc before deciding on a purchase.

Who knows, if my body begins to straighten out and go back to how it was, I may even start to enjoy climbing again.

This point crops up again and again. I've gotten so used to wearing TFX, I've forgotten how restrictive other designs can be.

Thanks for the feedback Contract. I'll be interested to hear your views after you've tried the other harnesses you mention.

Not unless someone turns up with their personal model.

We have the design registered and patented in the US and Canada - we are just working on a way to bring it cost effectively to the US/Canada market; we want everyone to benefit from the design in a reasonable way, without having to cheapen the components and build.

Part of our strategy was to keep the product close to home, in case of teething problems. That has proved a wise move.

Hopefully it shouldn't be too long now. Thanks for your interest.
