look what I found - A TREE

Ok, so this might not be difficult at all. but it is a little different than most trees in the area.

I have spotted two in that are about 10 miles apart.

in that order.

Location is North Gerogia Mountains. See if you can spot my bicycle - this was on the farm lands ride route.

Re: look what I found - A TREE

Maybe invasive in some parts? Around here they're not usually invasive but also not a really desirable tree to have near buildings, structure and strength similar to cottonwood.

Re: look what I found - A TREE

The are invasive, extremely fast growing, rain branches, susceptible to canker, and sprout from roots, basically a tree that gives people real reason to complain.

The worst I have seen was a 35 year old tree in a back yard, 80 feet tall, 5 foot diameter, two trunks at 10 feet and non intention of stopping. I would say other than carolina poplar nothing around here reaches that size so quickly.

Re: look what I found - A TREE

Thanks all for this information - I took a couple shoots and was going to plant them in the back forest that I live in, maybe not - BUT then they would make a good wind break and in the wilds of the yard, not near the house.

MAYBE I'll stick with the oaks and maples and sick a mores (sycamores)

have a grand day

Re: look what I found - A TREE

I have never met a species of tree that I did'nt like. Each and every tree does a fantastic job in the location where it belongs.
Take Populars/cottonwood/aspen etc.
They are riparian trees which require deep soils and plenty of water. When they are growing in their 'home turf' they do a great job.

Hummm, well maybe their is a tree I dont paticularly like: Tree of Heaven (I call it 'tree of hell' But even that tree does very well in the concrete jungle.

Re: look what I found - A TREE

It's funny frans, around here Tree-of-heaven is somewhat of a feature tree. They're not common which I suppose might be why they're also not naturalized anywhere around here that I've noticed.

Oh, and I agree that cottonwoods can be amazing trees in the right spot...flood plains for example, like this one.

Re: look what I found - A TREE

Frans you are correct, "where it belongs". I am perhaps not so rigid, most trees are great almost anywhere, but there are a few that are a pain. Alianthus pollen makes me sick to my stomach but I love that they can grow in cracks in pavement, silver poplar always seems to be a problem and Buckthorn (if you call it a tree) is a thorny invasive mess.

Re: look what I found - A TREE

Upon viewing the tree profile, all I could think of was:
#1 - The Larch

#1 - The Larch

#1 - The Larch

Silver Poplar, agreed. They look pretty in someone else's yard.
