Longboy or Zubat short polesaw?

So, I just can't decide now which will be the best choice for a great climbing polesaw. Anybody got feedback on either of these? I have tried the short Zubat and loved it, but I see the Longboy is even shorter when retracted and longer when extended. The one thing I worry about is durability of the folding blade mechanism.

Longboy!

It's a bit more substantial than the Z. Good or bad...I dunno. Heavier but it doesn't flex when I'm sawing fully extended.

My personal AB is in great shape. It was used for a long time too. The one I have at work spit out the little spring that operates the blade 'jack knife' mechanism. That isn't a big deal. I used [3M] electrical tape to hold the mechanism.

The pictures of the LB mounted on my harness are on a hard drive that isn't working right now. The way I had it setup makes it drag through the tree a bit like a cavalry saber...if you can imagine that. It didn't snag or get in the way as much as one might think. I do know that it was easier to carry it on my harness than to constantly move the pole/hook all day.

That's what she said!!!!!!

I have the longboy. Never tried the zubat. I really like my longboy. Had it about four years and no problems. It's definitely not too heavy. If my longboy craps out, I'll buy another longboy, not the zubat.

They're both good saws but you're climbing the Longboy is the ticket because of the folding blade and scabbard. You need a hook for it though and its pretty useful to put a loop on th butt so you can hang it.

It's good feed back to hear about the Longboy. I have gone through 4 bottom sections on my Zubat pole saw. They break in half at the hole, where the snap button is located.

They either need to do stainless steel for the thing, or at least stainless steel parts for that small section (where the hole is.

That ARS is similar to the Hayauchi. At first I thought it was a fair bit better design, but it too is somewhat flawed. Both are much longer saws than the Longboy. I'm on my second Hayauchi, which is slightly improved over the original.

I've never used the Longboy, but have used Zubat pole saws for years. True they are fragile, but they are light, which is really nice; though they lack a hook for hanging them (use a sling) and a hooked blade for grabbing stuff.

Hookfox fits the Longboy, it might fit the Zubat too.

Pole saws are just tools, no different than a handsaw, you have know how to use them, and in the case of a polesaw, you have to have the muscle for it. It's not somerhing anybody does well first try.

HookFox does fit the Zubat. I also have a lower pole section broken in the same spot Jamin Mayer describes. It happened in sub zero temps. I hate the scabbard on the Zubats. Practically speaking, just about worthless what with parts not fitting tightly after very normal and light use, and that stupid way the little plastic is supposed to keep the bottom buckle on...you'll have to do some Raven Engineering on it.

I love my zubat. I like how it will lock in the different positions. I find it easy to use in the tree. I am pretty small and find it suits me just fine. Ff its a big cut I will zip out but small things are fine. I also use it to hang x-mas and tiki lights! Scabbard on of course!
