Lockjack vs. Sportjack

I am sure this has been covered somewhere but I just can't find the thread/answer I'm looking for.

Has anyone been using either of the Jacks with the Rope Wrench SRT? Is one better than the other? From what I've been reading in Crazy Jimmys thread the Spiderjack is a sweet tool Ddrt.

Thanks!

None of the ART dDRT devices are designed for use SRT. The Rope Wrench was also not designed for use with ART products in mind.

Bing, are there any inherent issues with the jacks in combination with the wrench? Im bummed, my wrench is coming today and was hoping to try that combo.

Your welcome to try at your own risk that is just the official stand of both companies at the moment. I personally have not tried it.

I have no idea if it works or doesnt work with the ART products. I vaguely recall Joe Harris using the Spiderjack for a brief moment SRT in his last video. I'll have to check. I did try the wrench with my ART position er and I saw it had potential if only it had a wooden thing you could push into the rope to control friction, which would be a spiderjack. I have not tried it. The combo seems to have mixed results in the discussion at arbtalk. I really would like to get together with ART and figure out the best answer. I think the main advantage of the spiderjack is that the rope falls through it in dDRT which would be a HUGE advantage in dDRT and making the spiderjack on a ropeguide one of the most efficient ways out there to work a tree.

I honestly don't see there being much of an advantage for that feature in SRT. although again I have not tried it.

The wrench was definitely designed for use with a hitch in mind. ART has officially said (this too is only second hand information) they did not design the spider jack with a rope wrench in mind. That's all I'm saying. I actually say on the directions "or use with a hitch or like devices" meaning anything that may work exactly like a hitch. Does the spiderjack work just like a hitch?

I've tried the Wrench with a SportJack/LockJack when I worked in Central Park. Another climber there was rocking it DdRT with the ART Rope Guide and we thought we'd give it a whirl. I found it didn't engage and hold your weight unless the wrench was fully engaged. Also, all the benefits of slack tending you gain with these devices seem to be lost when tried SRT, there's just no good way to feed the rope through, and even if you could, the wrench impedes the smoothness of the whole operation. Myself, I wouldn't try it. But I know of a few people on the buzz who rock it out with no problems, hopefully they'll chime in here in a few.
