Line installation device

Finally got a chance to shoot some quick video of the Conifer Climber gadget I mentioned above. First bit is the type of tree I made this for, a perfect nightmare for using a throw-line. Almost a certainty to get it snagged, hopelessly tangled, etc. True, you can frequently just climb one of these free style with a lanyard, but all too often you come to a spot where the next limb big enough to trust standing on is out of reach and yet there is too much crap in the way to toss the line or a throw bag up. This gadget will reach up thru the stuff and quickly target a given limb with a single jab, using your main rope. No throw line and bag needed. The reach is only limited by the length of your pole and its extensions. I have a total of about 16 ft on mine, in four sections, and the head fits into most standard pruning saw poles. I put a hook on the side of the device so you can just hang it on a nearby limb when not using it, and it is right there handy if you need it again to move higher. Anyway, I have a couple of the complete heads almost finished if anyone is still interested in one (PM me). Both should be ready midweek.

That is very cool Burrapeg...I'll take one in the 125 ft model...

If you only knew the meltdowns I have had trying to set lines around here...I recently had to walk away from a big shaggy Fir after I left 5-6 stuck throw bags hanging in it and it was beginning to look like a decorated Christmas tree.....My options as I saw it were to go to the truck, grab my 395, and drop it on the house, or take a deep breath and come back another day... Thankfully I chose the latter, came back the next day and hit my spot on my first try...Trees a fickle like that....

Throwballs are fickle too.

Very slick design.

Hey All,

I have an extra one of the conifer climbers finished now that is not spoken for, if anyone wants one. Also, those of you who bought one, Dave (DSMc) had a good idea of protecting the arms better from getting bent when the device is not in use and just in the back of the truck or whatever, by keeping the cross piece in place in its slots, held there with a short bungee keeping tension on it in the hole for the carabiner. Thanks again to all of you who bought one.

A couple videos to 'visualize' the concept, to the attention of those who still wonder how the damn thing works:

Looking for a top roof hook, I landed on this site... http://maxicroc.com/english/

This company claims that the device was invented in 2008 by Jean-Marc Massy, an electrical tech, from Switzerland. One can find several pdf about possible applications of this device.
I guess I now know how easy it could be to route Christmas decorations in trees.

Tomorrow I'm going to reduce some long heavy limbs on fir trees that had been topped 20 years ago. They have put all their energy into to those side limbs and along with the fact that several have broken and dropped, the remaining limbs look like they couldn't take any climber weight.

I'm going to take the line installation device and see if it isn't an easy way to install a half inch rigging line in just the right spot.

Today I had a small storm-damaged maple that needed to be rebalanced and structured. The line setter from Burrapeg was perfect at setting my line in very tight crowded locations. Smooth, fast and precise. It is hard to over state how much time is saved by not messing with a throw line and bag.20200525_100017-1(1).jpg20200525_100157-1.jpg
