Linden Tree

This is a terrible picture of it since I just have it in the background when taking a picture of some caterpillars on a branch of quince bush. But hopefully it helps...

You can see on the right - look at the one dead branch at upper canopy. There are also brown leaves you can see throughout the canopy. This is an old tree and probably 60'+ feet tall. It does have a large wound that faces the forest side of the tree but since we moved here 3 years ago, it's done fine. This year I noticed the leaf issue:

I'd say 15% of the leaves browned and died off.

The tree is right next to a horse fence that was put in 5 or so years ago I believe. Our detached garage is also ~10 feet from it on the other side but that was put in decades ago I believe.

I also did park a car to the side of our garage this year and it's probably ~10 feet from the base of the tree and under the drip line of the tree. But could the weight of the car or the blocking of the water really do something to the tree?

Could it be some sort of pest/insect? Perhaps the large limb loss wound from years ago finally hurting it?

What can be done to ensure this tree survives? I'll make sure to take other pictures when I get home (let me know if specific pictures of the leave or anything else would help). Any and all help appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like fall web worm. If so it’s fairly benign, prune out the dead. BT can be effective but it takes a few days

That's the quince, linden on the far right.

Try Japanese beetles and basswood leaf miner and see if one of those may be it.

I see that the OP is from Somewhere. I'm not familiar with the climate or disease and pest issues around or near Somewhere, but anthracnose gets the Linden trees on occasion in my neck of the woods. But then, I live around Somewhere Else.

Don't drive under your tree if it is important to you. It's not about the water reaching the ground. Many trees handle it for many years. All of them would be better off without it.
