Each year in January, outside Orlando Fl, a special event takes place. For 17 years, Legends tree climbing competition takes place. This is a competition unlike any other. The comp is for climbers over 40. The ages of the climbers range from 40 to 70 years old. Traditionally in tree climbing comps, the older climbers volunteer and run the event for the younger climbers. These comps create several days of education, camaraderie, and healthy competition. Hundreds of hours are donated all across the world from veterans of the industry allowing these comps to take place. At legends, the under 40 climbers volunteer and run the comp. This allows the older climbers, pioneers, and innovators of our industry to compete with similar aged competitors. This comp honors the folks who made the industry what it is today. Usually competitors have to pay a registration fee that partially finances the comp. At Legends, there is no registrations fee for climbers or volunteers. This event is run solely on donations. This will be my 4th year competing. (No…..I’m way over 44). This even is so important to the competitors as its more a gathering of old friends and having some fun messing around in the canopy. Please consider going to the link above and donating to the event. If you’re an over 40 climber, register to compete. If you’re under 40, come volunteer, give back, and meet an entire group of people in your profession you may not even know exist. Who doesn’t want to be in FL in January?
