Lanyard twist

I use a Trango cinch for lanyard adjustment. Originally it was used with an Oceans 10mm lanyard. Couple months ago I replaced it with Aztec 11.7 mm. Not sure if it's the diameter difference or what but behind the cinch, the lanyard gets really twisted. I just have the tail of the lanyard (behind the cinch) running through a loop on my saddle with the eye splice at the end of the lanyard attached to a carabiner on my saddle. The twist isn't a big deal until I use a lot of lanyard and the twist makes its way to the cinch, which is a lot of fun to deal when you've got weight on the lanyard. Once a week or so, I'll unclip the eye splice and work out the twist but it almost immediately comes back. I don't like the idea of just leaving 10' of lanyard just dangling off the back of my saddle, nor do I want to daisy chain the tail. Anybody understand what I'm saying? And if so, any suggestions on avoiding this? Not a big deal, more annoying than anything.

The lanyard diameter isn't the problem, a swivel on the carabiner end is what you need to resolve your dilemma. If you're capable of splicing, install a swivel/biner or just a swivel and attach with a carabiner! Problem Solved.

Bingo !
Many years ago, I went from a 12' to an 18' lanyard. Same distel hitch & cord.
The hockles were so bad that I could not use the extra length.

I installed a Petzl swivel at the saddle loop. Problem solved !
(I had it, but wasn't using it for anything else.)

Note: The swivel must have very free rotation.
I was told that this approach would not work, without loading the swivel; but it did work for me !

Some people just want to start an argument for arguments sake, jmayer, get the facts before you contradict! [emoji102][emoji12] NaNaNaNaNa! Too juvenile, I know! But every lanyard I've ever had, has always had a swivel, just for that reason!

Thanks for the insight gentleman. I assumed it had something to do with the change in diameter, since I didn't have an issue with the 10mm. Kinda crazy that less than 2mm in difference can cause a problem but oh well. Guess I'll have to research some new adjustment options and/or a swivel. Who wants to convince my wife that I need to spend more money on climbing shit?

Have fun with that :). I have a BOLA that may be for sale if my coworker decides against it, but it requires 11mm. I could throw in your chosen length of kermeleon.

That's been my favorite lanyard device for quite some time now. I have a swivel attached to it since I purchased it. Surveyor has had some of the most brilliant tools that I've ever owned! Money has no issues for the finer tools of our trade!

An intriguing offer, let me know when and if it's available. The Aztec lanyard is pretty much brand new so hopefully I can find an affordable option for lanyard adjustment with that. Might even try a swivel with the setup as-is and see how that goes.

Gordon (Surveyor) makes a wide Bola as well, and works perfect on Yale 11.7mm lines. Just so ya know ;)
