I believe MB means leaving a huge hinge on the cut, maybe put a pull line all the way at the tip of the limb and pull it down having the hinge hold the log.

Yep, that's it, but it's tricky and doesn't apply to every situation. It may or may not have worked for you; it's hard to tell from pics. Your log may have been a tad too big.

Huge hinge cut...tag line to pull it out?? Now I understand...and it gives me the heebie-jeebies...that is beyond my experience level. I don't trust my hinging enough to feel confident it would hold long enough to be trusted. But it is a great idea, had not thought of trying to control it that way.

Would you cut the notch in the side, facing the way you want to pull it and then slowly back cut (from the opposite side) to let the limb slowly release while the groundman pulled the tag line?

If that is correct, what is the best way to make the notch?

Depth and angles?

In the attached picts, which, if any, might work? These drawings are looking from the top of the limb.

The limb in the actual picture was over the peak of the house and the fork of that limb was about 4-5 feet away from the house. My next post will have a picture of the limb from the roof.
