Labor Day enjoyment

Tomorrow is the day created to acknowledge the Labor of the workers. I'm not sure if other countries have a Labor Day like here in the US.

Like too many Monday-holidays the meaning and origin is lost to ancient memory.

The forty hour week...health insurance...job protections...the middle class...grievance process..job safety and many other taken for granted things that we have in place now came out of the hard fought union struggles in the early part of the 20th century.

For a bit of perspective Phil Ochs wrote a song for Joe Hill. A movie was made too that about Joe Hills life and death by firing squad.

Now...a request about comments. This thread is about honoring Labor and not going to spin off into mudslinging politics. A great uncle of mine who was one of the first born US children on my Dad's Swedish side of the family took a bullet in the back from the thugs in the 1934 Teamsters strike in Minneapolis. He lived fortunately. His son has become thepresident of an elevator repair workers union. My Dad was a union steward at the US Post Office. My life has been in more white collar type jobs but my support has always been for workers.

Enjoy Labor Day
