Kiwi Klimbers

Steve Connally

Been here much more than a while
Got the Dale Thomas Kiwi Klimbers yesterday. These are the pair he sent me to demo. I'm still waiting for treestuff to get the ascender and spacer to mount before I can give them a good run and review. I bought the American short gaffs because the ascender and the spacer would make the long distels way too long. Unfortunately I don't have a set of longs to temporrily use until the ascender comes in. That will really limit the climbing I can do to test them out. I hate to buy the longs as they are &95 and I'm probably gonna take them off and never use them again anyway. If somebody has a set I can borrow I'll pay you for postage.

So the kiwi klimbers. Out of the box: lite, sexy, sturdy. It is a solid looking product. Adjustment of the pads is simple with 2 screws. Foam padding on the pads is about .25" thick. The upper Velcro is just a straight wrap. It doesn't double back like the Bucks do. That makes me wonder how tight I'll be able to get it and how the adhesive will hold up in a hot tool box or a nasty summer in Virginia. The lower strap is a high quality thick leather. The grommet where the lower goes is anchored In the stirrup. The ring that holds the lower straps is not a split ring. It's a solid steel ring. I personally like the wide Velcro lower straps on my climbers. If I wanted to switch out the lower straps I would have to cut that ring. Not sure if thats a European standard or something but rest assured, the leather is thicker than most I've seen. I'll keep you all updated andost some pics probably today. Ask questions if you'd like. I'd like to give these an honest review as he was so generous to let me demo them
