I'm shopping for a climbing harness for my daughter. She is 2.5 years old and probably about 35 lbs.

I like the looks of the adjustability of the Mammut Elafantino, but I'm concerned about comfort since its just webbing. Anyone have some experience with that harness or perhaps the Petzl harnesses?

Thanks

From my rock climbing backgroound, the Petzls are pretty much the standard for kids harnesses. From the tree side of things, there are more options than you can shake a stick at. But I know at least the petzls are tried and true.

Jim454 sent me the petzl harness for Climber. I've put my niece Deaglan in a tree and she loved it. No complaints about pinching or soreness. She is a heavy one too. Just turned three and is about 45-50lbs.

(Thanks Jim, I will make sure that this harness will see many hours of fun climbing)

My kids both love this one.
easy to adjust for the little ones and also fits bigger kids.

My sons are climbing in it from age off 2 in this one

I have an older Petzl kids harness the ousiti, the adjustability was not that great. The newer models Simba may have improved this.

Mammut makes excellent products.

My son turns 6 this coming March and I am going to get him a New Tribe.

Dave' I ahve a new tribe they may not fit my son any longer. Your welcome to try it Its like new. If Andrew outgrew it cody can have it as a birthday gift.

Hi all. As you may see I am new here. I've been checkin things out as a non-member for a little while, but couldn't resist. I see this thread and bingo here we go. I have a very excited to climb with daddy 4 year old and a 2 year old getting ready to follow her. I've been lookin for a decent saddle for either or both. I see 'em in Wesspur and in a few rock mags, but I haven't decided. Thanks for the info in this thread and in the site as a whole.

we use these harnesses for all of the facilitated group climbs for Earth Joy, they are sturdy& versatile, & my son was glad to see all the padding, after using a modified rock climbing harness the last few times out.

He can't wait to get out in the trees w/ me

The Mammut looks like it will work, but I would recommend making one for her. I use the Petzl for my 5 year old, he loves it. It did not fit my 4 year old, so I made one for him. Pics here:

Kids are so top heavy that you need a high tie in point for them. Adjust the leg loop knot until it fits snugly and the tie in loops are at her solar plexus. You can always pad it with larger webbing or some leather. The one I made was more to belay and not sit in very long.
