Jobber Software

I don't think this has been mentioned or made known. But just so everyone knows, if you operate a Mac and have Quickbooks for Mac, desktop version, you cannot incorporate your Jobber and Quickbooks like they say you can.
Its not Jobbers fault. I guess quickbooks doesn't make the online program to do that from the desktop version...
But tech support was awesome and also ensured me that they are working on incorporating more accounting features into Jobber.
So for now, I'll just have to duplicate entry, or just use Jobber for scheduling.
A bummer since I was stoked to give this whole thing a go and be organized, but

Just assisted in setting up a friend's business with Arbor Softworx... getting them away from dry-erase-board scheduling... looks pretty good so far and merging with Quickbooks went well...

Hey Sam,

You're right on the money — QuickBooks doesn't make a Web Connector for Mac, so we're unable to synchronize with QuickBooks Desktop versions for Mac. We don't actually state anywhere that we *do* sync with QB on Mac Desktop, but I guess we don't say that we *don't* either. We'll need to fix that

In any event, we unfortunately have no control over this, and are sympathetic to our Mac based customers. We're a Mac based company ourselves, so we certainly understand...

To be honest, QuickBooks has been pretty terrible at supporting Mac users for many years, and has been pretty bad at innovating their software to keep up with the usability expectations of the new generation of users. This is a big part of why we're focused on providing enough accounting functionality right in Jobber to handle the vast majority of what businesses actually really need day to day. Keep in mind that the average small/medium field service company only really uses about 5% of the functionality that something like QuickBooks has to offer.

In fact, with a handful of recent improvements, Jobber now has most of the accounting functionality that the majority of our customers really need. Every day we're hearing about more and more users ditching QB and saving themselves that added cost and complexity. To be clear, Jobber is *not* accounting software, but it does provide *most* of the accounting style functionality that a small/medium business needs on a day to day basis, and we are indeed going to be adding more.

I hope you're all having a great ramp up to the spring season so far!

Cheers,
Sam @ Jobber

Thanks for the reply Sam@Jobber. I'm sticking with jobber since your customer support (Broc) spent over an hour on the phone with me helping me get set-up and many emails getting my customers transferred.
I'm all set-up and will gladly wait for the many improvements and/or additions that are on the way. Even right now, its way better than anything else I've found that can work with my computing systems and way I function.

My free subscription ran out. I couldn't get into it. Had a person contact me early on and was lead to believe that another person was going to be contacting me. They have a good product. Maybe I will try it again later.

I'm using it more and more each week. It has sped things up for us quite a bit. I've found the technical support to be very responsive...even though they haven't made me an iOS app yet! :P (I pester them about it every chance I get!)

It costs me about $15/month more than what I was paying before and has so much more function to it. I'm sure I'll stick with it for a while

I just switched over to Jobber from service ceo. With my added staffing it was a no brainer. I have three users for like 55 a month and the chem tracking is sweet. Service Ceo would cost me like 375 a month for the same. Jobber is extremely easy to use.

Has anyone found a way to improve the estimate form template on jobber? I find that it lacks the robustness and content-richness of arborgold, but I can't stomach the arborgold bludgeld.

Is there a way to populate categories in the template (species, #, prune or remove, etc.) on jobber and to prefill them that is simple and easy?

mine look like this:

Work items- there are about 50 items in there. Examples:
Pruning
Cable 1/4
Cable 3/8
Structural
Fert

If we look at the description for Cable 3/8 it says:

: Install 3/8" Cable secured with Rigguy Anchor system to support weaker codominant stems

The tree species goes before the colon. When I had Routzy I asked them for what you're asking for. Sortof a triple organization. Task, species, description. They basically said "no." So I didn't even bother asking Jobber when I started with them. I had gotten used to my system. And besides. The species list for Los Angeles would have a few hundred trees in it. I can spell faster than I can scroll!

So anyway. Does that even make sense?

I just spoke with Jobber yesterday and they said an IOS app is on the way as well as categories for services so you can have a drop down box for pruning and then sub categories, structure, crown cleaning, ornamental etc etc.

Nick--this has been my rub with them. I don't like hand typing on a screen. In my mind, the entry has got to be faster than that. I don't want to be pressing a foggy screen again and again with my sausage fingers for that damned 'p', or some such thing. I want the drop boxes which, thanks Marlinspker, I'm happy to learn are on the way. I will give them a call.

I talked to them about this as well. Keep us updated. I just couldn't get into Jobber with the most recent version.

When? When I ask them about it (which I have been doing from day 1 of my experience with them) I'm told that they are working on it but there are bigger priorities. I would LOVE an iOS app. I keep getting stuck in spots with no reception and can't access any of my data because nothing is stored on my device. A half-decent app would fix that.

Who else is using Jobber on iOS?

love
nick

I am Nick, although I'm having no problems with reception. Our cell service up here is great and mostly 4G too. But I do agree an app would make this service WAY better.
I'm going to stick it out because its working way better for organizing by business better than what I had been doing.

Soooo..... Who's successfully transferred 2800 clients to Jobber?

Not to mention the 12,000 transactions it would be nice to have transferred as well. (so estimators don't look dumb when asked which trees were vertical mulched in 2008)

I had issues transferring my clients because of some stupid thing with Quickbooks for Mac, but customer support helped me out and did it for me. Give them a call or use the chat support, its very easy no matter the number of clients or service categories.
Like anything, it takes some time to get set up, but I'm happy with it now that I've got it set up.

Hey everyone, just checking in! Thanks for the continued support and positive comments/feedback.

I'll try to quickly respond to most of the comments here since our last post.

@Tr33Climb3r: Sorry that you got missed — we put a lot of effort into customer service and this shouldn't happen. I do see that an account manager has been in touch with you since, and hopefully you're up and running!

@mikegar: Unfortunately we can't do a TreeBuzz discount at the moment. Jobber is priced to be extremely affordable relative to the other options out there, especially with respect to the quality, functionality, service and pace of improvement. Any cheaper and we'd be giving away the farm :)

@NickfromWI: We're steadily marching towards the goal of fully native mobile apps, however as you can imagine, it's a significant amount of work to do right. Just yesterday we announced a handful of iterative improvements you might be interested in: http://blog.getjobber.com/2013/05/jobber-mobile-kicked-up-a-notch/

@marlinspiker: Thanks :) We've been hearing from a lot of prior ceo users over the past number of months. Glad to have you on board!

@ward: Hopefully Nick's suggestion helped you (thanks Nick!) Completely customizable forms/templates is an extremely difficult thing to do in cloud based software. We will be looking for ways to provide that kind of functionality in the future, but the technology isn't quite there at the moment.

@marlinspiker: As noted above, native apps for both iOS and Android are underway and have a secure spot on our roadmap, however it's quite a bit of work to get to production. We're making iterative steps to get us there.

As far as service categories go, our smart-drop-down system allows you to prefix service items with a category keyword, which can then be used to narrow down the list. Adding a second drop down specifically for categories is something we've talked about in product sessions, but the interface for that kind of thing significantly complicates the quote/job/invoice form for the majority of our users who aren't necessarily dealing with lists of hundreds of services/products. The smart-drop-down enhancement we came up with seems to be working well for most in the "hundreds of services" camp, but this one will remain on the roadmap for when we've worked through a number of the higher priority development items.

@Mangoes: Have you been in touch with our support team about this? We can import 2800 clients for you no problem, however job histories are a different story — especially 12,000 records. This is an issue for any system though, since the format of the information you have will undoubtably be structured completely differently from system to system. It just isn't practical/possible to provide a generic import utility for that kind of thing. There's also a processing/connection limit in play here, since processing 12,000 records all at once can tie up a server for a long time, and would likely timeout at some point. Get in touch about the Client import though — we can definitely help you with that, and maybe provide some options for having the "Last Service Information" stored as a note on your Clients for your estimators to refer to.

I hope that's all helpful info! Again, thanks for all the great feedback and kind words. We're looking forward to long happy relationships with all of you!

P.S. If you're new to Jobber or wondering what it's all about, check out our updated 14 minute Quick Tour Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAiUGxc26Q8

Sam @ Jobber
