Jobber Software

also can you set up different tax brackets? We dont pay sales tax for tree care but lawn fert is a taxable item.

[/ QUOTE ]

Do you mean taxable vs non taxable? That's a good idea too.

I can't remember Nick, did you ever decide to go with Jobber over Routzy, and why? .

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes. I started officially this week. I have one month of my Routzy subscription left. So this month it'll be there as a backup if needed, but I'm trying to go all Jobber here on out.

The biggest feature for me is the ability to collaborate on estimates. I can call the office, have them make one change and then send it out. The info online, not on iPad! Also, Routzy doesn't have a good calendar for scheduling.

I wish Jobber had categories of service. In service ceo i have one entry for Pruning with a drop down box for , ornamental, structure, crown raising, endweight reduction, etc etc. it makes it really easy to build a quote and you dont have to scroll through so much.

I don't do any scrolling. I have several types of pruning in the master list. If I start typing "pru..." The list gets narrowed to just the pruning items. Then I just click the one I want. It's pretty fast.

Hey guys,

Thanks for keeping the discussion rolling! A couple of updates for you:

1. Taxes! Today we started working on support for multiple tax regions (along with the reporting you would expect). I can't give any time frames for release, but our developers have starting in on it, and if our track record is any indication (http://blog.getjobber.com), it won't be long.

2. We've already slated taxable vs. non-taxable as a follow-up addition once the initial release of multiple tax regions is complete.

3. SonshineTreeCare: We made a small update that should help with your large notes area breaking in the middle of the page, and will continue to iterate this area.

4. Product/Service Categories: We recently implemented a neat update to our line item selectors — you can now input your default products and services with prefixes (e.g. "Pruning - ......"), and narrow down the list to just the Pruning items by starting to type "pru" as NickfromWI has said. This is actually proving to work really well.

All the best everyone!

Cheers,
Sam

Thank you Sam/Jobber Team! That update made the difference I needed as far as making the invoice/quote no longer confusing. :) I'm stoked to hear about the tax integration project too. That is a big one for me.

That thing where Jobber figures out the city state and zip once you type in the street address...

AWESOME!!!

It keeps sneaking up on me, but it is really nice.

So I have been following this thread since the start and it finally time for me to move from the old ages of book keeping to moving online. The biggest reason I haven't done it yet is because I have been holding out for quickbooks but unfortunately their software does not run on my computer (its only 7 years old).

I get a good feeling just have to make sure, jobber will be just fine and I don't need quickbooks right? Keep in mind I am pretty simple person so I don't need to much.

I read through this whole thread and will be following as well. Will look to play with this soon. Nick what happens if a customer can't go paperless? LA's market may not have that concern I was just curious?

Last year I printed and mailed 2 estimates- both for LOLs (little old ladies)

Jobber has an option to make the estimate then open as a PDF. Then you can print it and take it old school from there.

I have yet to do the trial. But with jobber is there an area to sketch the location of trees within the yard? If not how have you been making sure the tree that is being discussed is the one that the crew gets done.

I haven't seen that functionality in Jobber. However, Routzy DOES have that option and I never used it.

Our estimates are very descriptive. If there are similar trees, we'll use scientific names to avoid confusion and we'll also use other descriptors:

Brazilian Pepper (Schinus terebinthifolius) nearest the SW corner of the garage.

If the property has so many trees that more info is required, I'll hand draw a sketch. I did that maybe 10 times last year for some HUGE properties.

Don't have time to resend right now, just wanted to report that it isn't all peaches. Just spent half an hour on an estimate...twice...so now an hour and both times the estimate just disappeared and I got an error message saying to check the twitter feed. Pressing the back button just made matters worse.

F bomb.

I'll go do this on Routzy and it'll be done in 15 minutes.

And for what it's worth I attribute this mistake directly to jobber being web based. I fully believe that it happened because it wasn't happy with the Internet connection it had and thus there was no way to save the work.

There's no save button.

Had this been an ipad app that was auto saving at every move, this would not have happened.

Come on guys. Make an app.

@Jobber and others, a few questions.

#1-This may be a 'ignorant business guy' question, but can this replace Quickbooks as far as the accounting management? I'm really interested in using Jobber to get better organized. I read on the Jobber site that you can integrate with Qucikbook, but they also mention that Quickbooks is old. Plus, why use multiple programs if you don't have to?
#2-I don't have an issue with it being web based since I usually have great internet connectivity, but I am limited to GB of usage a month with Verizon. I know it depends on how much I use it, but with an average usage, how much data will I burn through using Jobber?
#3-The taxes thing was addressed and thats cool since I work in two different states with different taxable items and rates. But to add to that part, can you choose with services/items in a quote/invoice are taxable? Example, for me in ND tree sales are taxable, but planting and other services are not.

Great thread by the way!

#1-No, I don't think it will. Currently syncs to some extent that I don't know with Quickbooks for windows and quickbooks online.
#2- I would speculate that it wouldn't be a ton. It's pretty much all text, other then maps of properties which are through google maps. You can upload docs to attach to clients, so that's up to you.
#3-Unless I missed it they haven't released the update to address the taxes...

Hey everyone — just want to address a couple of the items in here since our last post.

1. @NickFromWI: Very sorry again for the issue you ran into with your estimates. We did manage to narrow this down to an internet connectivity issue, and the circumstances leading to the issue are extremely rare and improbable. As you mentioned though, it is web based software, so there is always the possibility that a connection glitch will cause an issue. Just so everyone knows though, this specific issue is extremely rare, and typically even in the event that an error occurs, you would be able to re-submit the form without any problem.

We do have plans for native apps, however that's a rather large undertaking and we want to get a number of other development priorities out of the way before taking that on.

2. @AspenArbo: For most basic needs, Jobber can absolutely entirely replace the need for QuickBooks. I completely agree that there's no sense in using two pieces of software if one will do. There are certainly more advanced accounting features that QB offers that we intentionally do not in the interest of simplicity and usability, but most of our customers have found that those features are not really necessary and just complicate matters anyway.

3. @AspenArbo: Data usage shouldn't be an issue. As SonshineTreeCare mentioned, the traffic being transmitted is almost all text based, so 1 GB would be more than enough for even heavy usage.

4. @AspenArbo: Our tax management improvements are in active development and we're approaching a release of the first batch of changes. The first iteration will include support for multiple tax regions, followed up by a second iteration for taxable vs. non-taxable service/product item support.

5. @All: I saw a few mentions above of getting work items set up and thought I should quickly mention that we put up a new blog post yesterday including a quick video demonstration of some cool improvements we recently made with respect to selecting and creating service items. I think it might be really useful for some of you to take a look: http://blog.getjobber.com/2013/02/select-and-create-new-service-items-really-easily/

Hope that helps answer some questions and address some issues!

Cheers,
Sam
