Hey, with the cold weather coming I am looking for a new Jacket. What do you recommend for climbing in and why? The last Jacket I had would freeze my belly every time I would lift my arms. :frio:

It gets cold in South Carolina?

In the winter I just climb in an Under Armour Cold Gear turtleneck with a long sleeve t-shirt over top. Usually does me good down to -20 Celsius. The UA is nice because it's skin tight and stretchy so it doesn't restrict movement and they're made long so no exposed belly. I find jackets/sweaters/hoodies too bulky and restricting while climbing. Baselayers are key.

It's a wet cold here in the North of the state. I've felt colder in parts of the Carolinas then I did when I visited Krasnoyarsk, Siberia. The Under Armor is what I have used but, I like a jacket over it till I get warmed up.

I swear by the arbor wear stuff. I'll use it as a top layer to break the wind till I'm warmed up then toss it out of the tree. I'm also a big fan of the Patagonia stuff on eBay. Often times its way too warm for tree work though. Canopy jacket is nice and lite weight and has breathable fabrics in the arm pits

Are you belly tying your jacket again treezy? Pretty sure I know the town where you learned that.

And Steve, breaking wind in your jacket until you're warm, then wrapping it up as a gift to your groundies? You should save that for your boss' brother/estimator dude.

Thin north face down jacket with a carhart vest.
I've had the same one for 2 seasons and it only has a couple punctures fixed by seamseal.
The rips top nylon exterior works quite well.

My problem is when i layer up and then don my harness my upper body get restricted from full movement. That causes a lot of stress and sometimes pulled muscles.

For me its a c9 thermal shirt,T-shirt,long sleeve, and long johns. Then I just climb faster to stay warm. Below 25ish I may put on a sweatshirt and when its time to cable I put on an insulated sweatshirt and get done asap. I forgot to mention I wear chainsaw pants all winter also that helps. I prefer the fall and winter to work in. I can always add cloths and move faster to stay warm but the clientele frowns when they see a naked person climbing through their trees.o_O
