Just below an old topping cut, written on a piece of cigarette package, wrapped in a sandwich baggie and stuck to the tree with a Stihl carb tuning screwdriver, a note from the previous climber:

"Topping this poor thing again are we? Why doesn't it just die!", and the date. Five years previous almost to the day.

That's hysterical! I'm gonna start leaving notes in trees.

Re: Elk Head in Tree

Last week we had a 10 acre land clearing job in a park clearing about 10 thousand little Chinese tallow trees and 500 larger tallow trees so i dropped one of the larger trees and was in the middle of bucking it up for removal and spotted a purple 8 inch long sex toy

gross!!!!!

Re: Elk Head in Tree

For the love of Pete!

That wasn't a SEX TOY!

It was a Wood Splitter!

Don't you recognize a Bone-a-Fide Tool when you see one!?

(hope I didn't cross a line with this post....

Re: Elk Head in Tree

When working in Columbus, OH on a backyard distribution line with a row of multiple white pine tops "yes, I am a utility arborist, so please go easy on me", each of the trees had a smashed Budweiser can on top.

Re: Elk Head in Tree

Welcome tr33thri11s. Util arbs have a tough, risky, high production job. I think we all respect that. It's the pointless hacking and lame cuts that gets people riled.

I'm glad it was Budweiser and not some pansy beer.

Re: Elk Head in Tree

thanks Blinky....yeah I know the types. Just recently started up a new job and alot of the employees sent to me were from transmission. They couldn't believe that I wouldn't allow them to use spurs on trims. I told them that if I could show them that I was able and willing to climb with the crews without them that they could as well. Needless to say after several grunts and moans they are learning to become better tree climbers.

found this small rock wedged in a cavity about 45' up a hemlock last week. The tree had been worked on before, so maybe another climber put it in there for fun.
