Issues descending on RRP after removal ?

After doing a removal on a crispy spruce, it was a bear to work the bird of my Rope Runner Pro. Is this just how it is when it get debris/chips?

After I cleaned it, per Notch's recommendations, it seems normal. I had just cleaned it prior to the removal too

I don't think it was the rope. Using Fly and my Ballard is set to 3

I find this too - ascend SRT for a spruce sap fest removal - even looking at the rope it didn't seem that bad, yet on the way down with a choke on the stemwood - then the RRP has been a bear to get going on the rope into a descent. I've honestly had varied luck getting the RRP to work as smoothly as even the old MK1 version, on everything from 11 mm kerns to Squir and others. I didn't buy an Akimbo for just this reason - it doesn't like sap, according to reports (as I've said elsewhere, sap is the visitation of the Dark One on earth). So RRP experiment still in progress in our engineering field lab (the truck) or just indoors in the cave of wonders. But still can't beat the ZZ for smmoooth in my books tho.

Afterthought: the RRP bird sticks so much sometimes, that I'd like to see someone (hey Notch) come up with an SRT Bird type thingy again, but for the RRP (the RRP Breaker?), to prevent "medical thumb denting syndrome" (oww) on a sapped up RRP/rope. That'd get my vote. Cheers
 
What's interesting is since this tree was a bit dry, sap was present, but much more minimal than usual. The last removal I did I brought a backup descender.

It sounds like this may be something I just need to deal with. I was considering moving the Ballard to a 4 ...
 
If the bollard is too tight, initially breaking that friction hold can be hard, and a bit scary if you’re not used to it. Are you and this device new to each other? Just a thought…..
also- Usually my final decent on a RRP after much work, I find it fast, and it’ll actually creep a bit (no sap situation), from rope flattening out during the day.

Had it about a year. If I just prune my typical tree (red maple or pin oak) it's all good. I run it on the 3 setting with 11mm. I'm hesitant to open it up more, scared it will let me go, while limb walking lol

Hearing your setting doesn’t say much to me. Operator/ing weight, rope wear, and wear of the RRP all create variables from one user to the other. Sap final answer.

Have you tried just a Shunt above the RRP with a sling/ tether past the RRP as a backup? My usual backup for hitches on the down is a biner/ munter or a ring and biner on my r leg loop but for the RRP I wouldn't do this, I don't think. A Shunt is really quick (but you have to slack the rope to set up) and passes a hands off or "whistle test". On the way down you can just collapse the Shunt and come down on the RRP as normal, but it catches immediately if you take your hand off. Works for smaller rope diameters 10 -11 mm as a single I think it is.

The spec sheet sez these Zeiss wipes are 70% isopropanol - I used 98% isopropanol for years on a rag to clean sap off both hardware and ropes but after a discussion about chemical compatibility & ropes on TreeBuzz, now just use isopropanol and a wetted rag on hardware (works great for this) and have switched over to 98% ethanol on rope for sap patch removal before washing. Where do you get 98% EtOH? Well it was pointed out that a ready source is Everclear and it really does work ! There's been lots of discussion about this in the past. FYI Cheers
