Yea, just come by the office and do a couple CDs of your choice. That will be worth at least 8 CEUs. I think there's a one credit module on the Tree Identification CD, all the rest are worth two. I would allocate half to two-thirds of a day to knock that out. A rain day would be good when I'm in the office.
 
I don't think I would ever pay that much for either of them. That's the price of a full weekend conference with meals.

How many CEUs would one be eligible to earn if they were to purchase that set?

And if I by the CD set, can I earn the CEUs then loan the set to a co-worker?

Hey Nick, I think the CD set was worth the money. It's a great tool to train new arborists. I think the CD set and the Certification Study Guide are the best study materials to prepare someone to take the Certified Arborist Exam.

After passing the exam, they could then go through the lessons again and submit them for 49 CEUs total. I just can't see why anyone would purchase the online course because of the substantial cost increase.

Conferences also give you the chance to network which your computer doesn't do. Except for the buzz. I've got to talk to speakers over drinks and some of the old vets as well the things I've learned with networking everywhere I can makes me not even want to consider the CD set
 
KevinS, I'm not sure what you're asking. All you have to do to be Certified is to pass the relevant exam and meet their requirements to sit for the exam. Being an ISA member and being Certified are not equivalent as I'm sure you know.

That's true, you had said it's an intro to arb I went straight to be certified.

So if you are not certified but a member how does that work? You can advertise being part of isa just not certified? Do you still need ceus?

You can be a CA but not an ISA member and you can be an ISA member but not a CA. CEU's are only necessary to maintain your certification and the different cert levels require different numbers of CEU's. For example, I am a CA and also a Muni Specialist. I am required to have 30 CEU's every 3 years to maintain my CA designation and an additional 12 CEU's to maintain my Muni Specialist for a total of 42 CEU's. The only difference in not being aISA member while holding a CA etc is you will pay a higher price for ISA produced/marketed products.

I'm a isa ca. But I haven't furthered my certs with any thing else climber etc. How much benefit are the extra titles?
 
Kevin, they are of no benefit if you don't intend to pursue a career in the direction of the certification. If you never plan to do utility work then the cert would be useless. It may be time for you to do some career projections. Where do you ultimately want to see yourself? What about 10 yrs from now? 5 yrs? it's all about where you want to go within this field. Then you can look at the various certs and education out there to determine what will give you a benefit in achieving your goal.
