Is it really this complex depending on equipment?

First off let me say I am climbing on Vortex 12.7mm and while I love it for some combo's and techniques it drives me nuts on others. Any thoughts on what rope you guys like would be helpful. I know it is also personal choice but if you have some of these tools and techniques in your bag please let me know your rope preferences. If you use different rope for different tools and techniques thenalso let me know that. Maybe I am just looking for a magic rope.

I have never climbed on anything that large but I would say you will find alot of people on here prefer the roughly 11.5 size double braids. Tachyon is one that comes up frequently.

I run Poison Ivy for Drt and Srt with a RW and a RIG. I also keep a 11mm sterling HTP in my kit for long SRT ascents and running Rads with the RIG.

There does not seem to be one catch all rope and setup out there. What systems have you used and what are you thinking will be your next purchase? Also what kind of work do you perform most of the time, large or small trees, pruning, removals??? More details can help with advice.

I was on vortex for a while as well, eventually i got tired of all the rope weight. I am on Imori and am loving it. It has a little more stretch than i like for SRT with a basal tie off. But its so versatile and is easy to grab. The other really solid line is Kernmaster! Can hardly go wrong with that line.

George,
I am really a recreational climber. I trim for family and hang hunting stands, Christmas lights and so on. I do climb probably 3-4 times a week though and "yes I am a gear junkie". I own all the above and have tried every combo of all the above. I also have some PMI Static 11mm that I have tried. However it is not arborist rope so I try not to use it unless I have to retreive a chocked noose from my tip (just yesterday actually). The 11mm works well but I was trying to find something easier on the hands. I might have just jumped to far to the large side. Of course any time the Gri Gri and Rads comes out it is always the 11mm. Luke over at Tree Stuff tried to sell me some Tachyon, but of course I was smarter him ha ha. Maybe I should have listened to the guy who sells the stuff to pros.

Ah out just before you get to Hershey. I am down the turnpike by Willow Grove. Some time I will have to come watch a professional climb. Like I mentioned, I own all that gear so if you need to try something you don't own yet...I am just down the road a piece.

The magic rope for me...the all around one-rope...is Tachyon. For long ascent/descent I might get a more static line but that doesn't work well for moving around a tree with the Uni.

See Tom, Luke and the boys are smarter then me,. Lol. Let me say thanks to you Tom and everyone here for all the great info you guys and gals let me leech off of. Thanks to you all from Arboistsite also, I would thank you there but well, you know what has been going on there over the last couple weeks. Thanks again.

I have been climbing on the imori for srt for awhile and I am about sick of it lol too much stretch for me Derrick.

I really like poison ivy. I don't know if it makes a difference but the hi vee is better than the ivy...good solid rope IMO.

Like George R said I wish there was the perfect rope out there that fit every hitch and set up you could ever use lol.

Hope you get something dialed in.
