What do you mean exactly? that sounds similar to a flip line with a prusik, but I think you are saying something different?

How about an alternative energy source to reduce emissions from all the power tools we use?

[/ QUOTE ]

Ya, no kidding. Imagine an electric chainsaw that is pro quality to reduce the breathing of 2-stroke small engines with relatively little emissions control. Not working in the heat over a hot machine that is very inefficient, energetically. Chaps don't work with electric saws though, too much torque.

Some guy converted some cheap old car to electric and blows corvettes out of the water on the drag racing strip. Essentially, full torque from the word GO.

Do people's chippers have catalytic converters? I know mine does not. I'll be happy to replace it with something newer, safer, and maybe less polluting. In the meanwhile, I'll have to work with what I have.

Yeah Tom, I use my Silky as much as I can on a pruning job and even on take downs where I'm clearing a path to the top. The ragging I get though makes me shake my head. Guys can't seem to grasp that for pruning it's just as quick to pull out the handsaw as it is to run the chainsaw. Though what I do see is the saw left idling between cuts, that to me just offsets any production gains.

Sean, those dc motors they use have extremely high torque characteristics at start up. They are called series or traction motors and are used for all sorts of high load applications where low end torque is required.

Sound like a big amp puller to replace a bigger bucking saw.

I saw a cheap battery powered chainsaw. Seems like it would be hard to get a saw worth anything without a cord, and therein lies the rub.

Handsaws and gas saws for now.

I just added a small 5 dollar fan from a pc to my kask. It runs on 4 AA batteries and has been chilling my head for 3 hours now. Bring on the heat. Its windy ...add sweat and I just may catch a chill
I need to cut my hair though....its flirting with disaster in there.

The fan ran for 8 hours! ok I admit its weird.
HOW ABOUT THIS ONE....
Anyone ever add a green laserpointer to their bigshot?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yea. Let's say it doesn't take much to put out a laser. Use the red ones you get at a dollar store. Killin one of these is 50 X less painful.

what do you guys think about the scarab?

Wanted to like it, was very hopeful, kept with it for ~8 months, focussing on the positives, but the negatives made me shelve the thing.

Well designed, impressive look, the right idea, just doesn't tend slack well, and that's a deal-killer.

I would try it but it needs a better attachment point.
Also compared to the Kong Robot, its extremely expensive. at $100, while the Robot is $24.
Maybe one day.

Why do you need an ascender if your wearing spurs?

[/ QUOTE ]

On trees where you have a really big section of trunk that you can't get your flip line around, or on a lot of removals I like to go SRT into the top and get tied in but because the Pantin doesn't fit over spurs I just clip my right spur to my saddle until I get to the TIP and then put the spur on after I am tied in.

HAHA hears an idea ive always wanted to try but never did! Get one of those little honda winchs they sell in sherrill attached with a loopie to the base of the tree...and hook your tailend of your rope to it! Presto! instant elevator.....with no footlocking! But I dont trust any groundie enough to shut it off before I get ripped threw a crotch of a tree! Sounds fun....maybe once. I dont know if that would be very fast though....probaly need different gearing!

[/ QUOTE ]

Instead of this how about having a second GRCS that is just for the climbers rope. It could have one of the 12 volt Harken winches on it with a remote control on the climbers saddle. But if you are spending that kind of money on something you might as well just use the money to hire someone who doesn't mind just climbing.

While talking about energy efficiant and going green. I no that Navy Subs and Carriers run off of a nuclear generater. They can run off of them for like a decade or something crazy like that. It would never happen, but your chipper could just purr for years without ever putting any diesel in it!

I have some local info on uranium. It is mined in my area which was some of the cleanest air and water in the world in our lifetime. I'm not sure which is the biggest contaminator in the world other than humans in large populations; oilsands or uranium. Both are located in this area.

For innovations I would like to see a mesh google like Bugz get industry approval. Visors get tangled climbing, glasses fog up and at the end of a day of removals I still spend the evening rubbing wood chips out of my eyes.

An arborist ladder could be good. They would need a wider base, adjustable legs for uneven terrain, and strength. I have the large Jaws ladder by Featherlite which is probably the best on the market. It's welded aluminum a little wider and telescopic. Problem is it's already too heavy and expensive and I still hit it with the odd block which could kill it and injure me. I know ladders aren't cool but they have their uses.

Another far fetched wish I have is a branch derbis bailer that is portable enough to have under the tree. Then the branches could be transported easier and what was a waste product could become a energy source via cogeneration. Then maybe we wouldn't need urainium and oil as much.

Finally a 80 foot carbon fiber pole for accuratly installing lines. They exist, weigh 15 pounds, but are $4000 and window washers use them. It may work for windows but the price is too high as in our enviroment we'd break them. I want one so bad I may price making carbon tubes myself.
