Re: Big Tulip Pictures

Mike that is a beauty! I've always liked Tulips (away from the house) because of their size and growth pattern. One reason was the challenge of climbing these trees without spikes and junk that used to be the way most did it. They always say to me that you CAN'T climb that tree without spurs. It's fun to climb trees that don't have any limbs for 60',70' and higher!

Re: Big Tulip Pictures

This has nothing to do with tree ID , but here is a pic of our climb from last weekend. Mat and Dan from MD comming out og a 260 foot redwood.

Thanks
Greg

Re: Big Tulip Pictures

Mark ,

Right up the road from the Tree House about ten minuts.A wild tree. I belive Tom started climbing it , but never finished due to time. According to Jerry , no one has ever been to the top except for us who climbed it last weekend .
Heres another one of Jesse Bawcum and Kenny Rawe just before exiting at 140'.

Redwood

Greg,

I'm happy that you got to climb the trio trees. That is a nice setting. The ship's bow is amazing isn't it?

When the Danes were over last summer we drove up to take a look. As we walked around the trees we found a little rattler that wasn't happy with us being around. I didn't like that so much! The first time we walked past we were about ten feet away but it didn't buzz until we came back.

Do you want to start a new thread with more pics?

Tom

Re: Redwood

My midwest mind wants to call #5 Salix babylonica...Weeping willow.

ps- I knew #4 was a magnolia, but I never would've gotten the botanical name.

Oh, I learned a new one today...Cunninghamia lanciolata (I'm guessing on the spelling, so you might have to say it out loud)...It belongs to one of the trees on this thread...do you know which one?

'Cunninghamia lanceolata' (China Fir). Mark made us guess
this one.

Do you mean another tree in this thread belongs to the
same family?

It's weird because some sources claim Cunninghamia
lanceolata belongs to the CUPRESSACEAE family (cypress),
others claim TAXODIACEAE and yet others claim PINACEAE.
I don't know which is right.

If pinaceae ir correct, Cedrus deodara posted by Greg id'ed
by Mark and the Aleppo pine (id #2).

if cupressaceae is correct, then the western red cedar also
posted by Greg.

Re: Redwood

No, I was just giving the botanical name of a tree that we'd already mentioned. I wasn't sure if anyone brought it up when Mark put the pictures on there. Maybe I should go check....but yeah, it was the china fir.

Re: Big Tulip Pictures

I am going to try to get a better shot of the needles and get back to you on this one. I think I'll turn the resolution on my camera up a bit, too. I think it's on the lowest setting.

Re: Redwood

I haven't been on for a wile due to ISP troubles. I used to be listed as idahotree. According to Dirrs' Manual Cunninghamia is in the family Taxodiaceae.
