Implementing a Rope walking system.

I finally had the chance to see how much my new rope walking set up would help on the job today.

Needless to say I was blown a way with my efficiency. I maintenance pruned and dead-wooded 5 eighty-five foot tall Pinus strobus in what I consider record time for me.

The last three I was able to prune and finish before my regular climber using a traditional body-thrust-free-climb-advance-the-line system was able to finish his one.

Granted he had to rig some of his stuff whilst I could free drop but I did finish two of them before he even reached his final TIP.

Now I just need to make it an imperative for my other climbers to give this a serious look. Our productivity should soar!

I'm not sure there is a name for my system. I'm using a pantin on the left foot, a knee ascender on the right leg, a PMI chest roller and I'm tethered to a CMI double handled ascender (backed up with a prussik)that I push above the chest box.

Can't wait to try it again! We have one tree left to do at that job tomorrow and have budgeted 90 minutes for it. I'd like to see if I can't do int in 60 or 75!

We also just bid on this massive Quercus macrocarpa that stands about 75' tall and 120' wide. Would love to try this in that tree!

Anyhow, just excited to find something that works for me!

Good deal, Rick. As good as that was for you initially, the walker system will improve with fine tuning and muscle memory. Something to look forward to.

The new tools and techniques for tree work are low cost, compared to lifts, and a reliable means of reducing effort and, thus, improving efficiency in the field.

rfwoodvt, cool stuff

Here is my footwalker that I made for my crew and it works pretty good . I'am using an old pair of CMI left hand ascender for this set up , also I installed a locking revolver on the bottom hole of the ascender and use it like a RAD w/a hichclimber system...

Is that a kind of RADS on a double line setup jf1962? I have been thinking of trying that but have not done it yet. How does that work for you? Thanks

If you push it up w/a pole saw up the rope it works good or you can shot your throw line up on a higher limb and tie it to the ascender and pull it up all the way , and that makes it really easy to pull your self up .. Not very fast but it works , or have your ground man give you a hand :-)
