I'm A Drunk

Re: I\'m A Drunk

Chris,
I was a horrible drunk and drug addict. I got sober on 11/4/96 and have been amazed at how my life has changed. I was living out of a few bags on the streets and sleeping under dumpsters and in old rolls of filthy carpeting. I now own my own "very small" lawn and tree business and also do computer work. Being sober is a blessing and it is wonderful to hear that you made it to 2 years. It just keeps getting better and more of life's gifts come your way each day.
Keep it up and good work!!
Jim

Re: I\'m A Drunk

I didn't worry about that as I tended to binge drink alone on the weekends anyways.

My family still drinks heavily, so it can be difficult when we get together at parties. My father quit almost 4 years ago so he understands.

Re: I\'m A Drunk

Chris if you EVER need someone to vent to or work through one of those really tempting times,PM me and ill give you my cell number. If you resist the devil he will flee from you!! the temptation is usually short lived!
GOD bless!!

Re: I\'m A Drunk

You're not a drunk Chris.

You're a fine human being - for sure!

Sometimes we just have to get lost to find our way.

Take care.

Re: I\'m A Drunk

It's great to hear more about the human aspects of our lives. Ironic that probaly 85% of the population can't or won't sit a saddle and function at height and We the battle scarred can't and won't consider ever trying to drink on solid ground(or elsewhere) and be "normal". The word "normal" doesen't have much meaning for me. For me much of it was Ego,but I've come to understand I control nothing. When I quit trying to control I receive Guidence. And no one can say We don't all have some kind of faith! Unlike Taitree,I'm fairly new in these parts, but still proud to share my phone #,though few would ask for it. Hell ,I might pm you taitree !I've found that sometimes being able to bounce thoughts off strangers can be damn insightfull, as a stranger is usualy impartiartial. Cause I'm good enough I'll even sometimed buy my own brand of B.S..I'm a recovering alcoholic married to an active one.I now try to lead by example and recieve dir.. I'ts a great and important thing , and encouraging, I think, that We as a comunity can speak about things like this openly .I've been told i'm shameless and try not to be too proud.I'm personaly glad to hear from others who aren't afraid to speak honestly and put out their hand and help another,or "throw them a line", if you prefere. 1day,1yr.or 1 decade, Congrats!! keep comin' back.

I help myself by helping others,
Don't Trip the Ego!

Re: I\'m A Drunk

Thanx Jim,but really it's the Chris',jimharv123's,6t56,Timberjacks and guys likeyourself and taitree and every one else who is open to talk about it. We as arborists, climbers, ground men, whatever, sometimes have tremendous responsibilities placed on our shoulders, sometimes others very lives, let alone our home lives. I found it easy to forget about all it for a while after work w/a few drinks, but I've always gone to extreems and my ego told me lies. Now I live, usualy day to day,as taitree said, it is short lived (the obsession), and i can stay sober hour at a time if i have to. When I accept those things,Ask for Help and let them go, and they go!! But I feel for anyone who knows what it's like to be too drunk or sick from not being drunk enough to be a part of what we were givin'!! It 's always better to feel, and be a "part of" than to feel nothing and be alone.

Re: I\'m A Drunk

Thats great. I stopped drinking acupple days before thanksgiving. Im not liking it I have a headache a lot and I cant find the right thing to eat or drink. I don't think I have a drinking problem. I did find that a beer is the first thing I would have when I got home and the last thing before bed. I love porters and ales. I guess its time for a brake.

Re: I\'m A Drunk

I made it through the Holiday Season without drinking again, but it wasn't any easier than the last couple of years.

Some people say it gets better over time, but sometimes (especially when you want to relax after a hard day's work)the craving is REALLY bad.

Thanks again guys for listening and sharing your stories.
