The OP asked "... what ... and why?", so ...
FWIW: Rope Wrench ... but, they ALL work and git-r-dun -- personal preference rules.

However, of all those listed (even RADS), the Rope Wrench is the only one that adds ZERO links in the life support chain.

"A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link."
Some systems listed have as many as two-dozen parts. A failure of a link in the life-support chain may mean life-support failure -- maybe disaster.

The Rope Wrench simply, and ingeniously, makes a hitch 'descendable'. (KISS - Keep I Simple Sweetie)

... just my 2¢

... this ought to be fun ...

That survey is broken. Whenever I try to click on my favorites it just jumps the marker to the last one I have selected. No matter how many times I have tried it wont let me select more than just one. ;)

Thank goodness there are no ifs in life. I love them all. You're going to say that this is a lame answer and the question was to pick one, but like my children I could not choose one.

Yea, it's all just hypotheticals and I wanted to get a feel for where SRT climbers placed their preference. I've only ever used one of these myself (Hitchhiker), but I'm sure if I had a chance to try the others picking a favourite would be just as difficult as some have described. As others have said they all have pros and cons and it all boils down to personal preference.

I voted for the hitch hiker, because that's what I use. For me, it was the easiest introduction to SRT. I had never used a hitch climber pulley prior to using the hitch hiker, so the rope wrench seemed like too much of a change at one time. Plus the HH cost less than buying the RW and a
hitch climber and everything else I would need or want to go with it.

That being said, I just ordered the Rope Runner and I can't wait till it gets here. I think I just like climbing, SRT, and shiny toys. I still climb doubled rope if it seems easier. Every tree is as different as my mood, so it's nice to have options

What if the connecting link was stronger, by far, than any other system component and could not be made to fail without destroying the weaker system components?
With the failure of one of the weaker system components, you will have then identified that the proverbial weakest link in the chain is something other than the "connecting link" of which you speak.

HH for me. Midline attachable, hitch based, friction is dependent on weight applied, bomb proof, double and single line compatible. Game, Set, Match. This statement is made fully aware that the RR may smash my opinion.....that is when I get one.
