I need new hikers

I love asolos but the fugitive gtx doesnt hold up.Ive had several pairs and bought my crew a few pairs and they never last.I have a pair of the all leather Asolos(dont know the name)but they are bullet proof-worth 240.00.I worked in them for 18 months had em re soled once and they are still workable-but semi retired.I bought a pair for one of my climbers who is really hard on boots-after7 months still in great shape.I guess the leather ones dont look as cool and get kinda ugly over time,But are far superior boot.Ive got a new pair of the fugitve gtx after 4 months are falling apart.

I have a pair of Asolo's and i'm not that impressed. I got a rip in the side mesh material the second day. The one metal shoelace holder thinger (hope you understand what i'm talking about, don't know the word for it, but what the shoelaces go around when lacing them up) broke off over a month ago. I haven't had them more then 8 months so far. I did look at those leather ones crazy_jimmy is talking about in a store and they look like they could hold up a whole lot better.

I've been wearing asolos for probably 4 months now. Not a bad boot. They still look great but my lowas are the bomb. I never feel my gaffs and they are light weight and footlock like a champ. Unfortunately they didn't last very long without a little help from shoe goo but now I've made em bullet proof and man are they comfortable. They beat out my baileys climbers all day.

I always shop sierratradingpost.com for boots. After these lowas meet there demise I'll go the lowa route again. I was that happy with them.

As far as gaff discomfort goes, I bought a special "orthotic" insert from Rei and they are great. Before my arbo career took off I worked in a orthotic factory and learned quite a bit about foot care. I'd rccomend these to anyone wearing boots all day long. If anyone wants more info let me know and I'll post it. Basically, your gaffs are f'n up your archs and you need more protection then your boots can offer.

Crispi boots one of the 2
Airborne GTX I like this boot the best cause of the removable ankle brace. I like the brace for working the ground, sole is a mid stiff, wont have numb feet from standing on gaffs all day. The lace protectoris an added bonus for kicking brush, you can added rubber dip to it for extra grip when foot locking.

Top 6000W I like this boot cause for pretty much the same points above less the brace. Sole is stiffer though and like any stiff sole takes getting use to and breakin time.

They, like any overseas boot, tend to be on the norrow side so if you have a fat foot I'd go half sive larger.

Is that the brace in the back? Looks like it just slides in and out. My feet bother me bad when in spikes for a long period, but i mainly use the redwings they do not even have steel shank maybe this is the answer to my prayers thanks for the info.

I've been wearing these for the past 6 months. Garmont Tower. Definately one of the best boots I've worn for all around tree work.

Those Garmonts have lasted me over a year now. I am surprised because the sides fused up within three months, but man they have lasted.

Seemed to me, and the manufacturers, and climbers here, leather is the way to go for toughness. i dont like to buy without trying on first, and that limited my selections.

I went to EMS and tried 2 pairs of Asolos and looked at some La Sportive Trango. The Trangos were too high, and wicked stiff soles. I tried the Powermatic 500 GV $300, and the TPS 520 GV $250. Same leather, height, and shank. It was $50 more for ball bearings in the laces, and darker color. Opted for the 520's......
