I Fear New Gear

Rec climbing is all well and done. But no I am a working arborist in spready tropical trees. Respect your view. Just not my thing for my daily grind.

srs or mrs. same shit just depends on slack tending. descending, ascending and work positioning or return to relax position.
mrs is what works the best in my trees, when I need to get out on tips and return to centre
srs is best when going up and down and sucks balls when trying to return from tips, not all tyhe time but most.
I like when I can switch it mid climb, ddrt, srt whatever you want to call it and whatever tool you are using you have to be thoughtful if you are going to race through a prune or get jammed up.

on occasion I use drt when I progress/alternate lanyard climb a small tree on a really quick mission and I think it will be easier/quicker to retrieve then setting a canopy anchor, still I usually regret the choice, a few extra seconds to yard some rope and cinch a canopy anchor is well worth it in the end even on a 10 or 20 minute tree mission.

And if one can't get in from a limbwalk SRS you might be experiencing vertigo. Don't blame SRS. Plus with SRS you should be redirecting it is all about planning the climb. I love being weightless on a long limb tip with a couple redirects above me allowing this.....

Obviously we can't always do that, sometimes we end up on a long limb with flat rope but even still it is way more easy and I would argue safer to return srt being as there is half the slack to tend on your way back.

Exactly. You just learn to suck it up. Balance and get back it. It is just a different technique. I love it.

I climbed for awhile with a unicender on an adjustable fairlead tether. when coming back from a limb walk you could lead out the uni, keep one hand on the uni like a jumar and one on your tail, it was a super ninja way to come back in.

For srs, preset a SCAM system or simple enough 3:1, one way or another.

Keep pulling your way back in from a long limb walk, while leaving back against your bridge.

I rarely set one.
Easy to do with one biner, tho.

Some conifer limbs around here are 30-40' long, and bigleaf maples have some good limb walks. I just got called for some work on a favorite monster Walnut, which has a sidewalk of a limb in it. No place for finicky friction.

I think positioning hooks could be useful with either system, and prevent a pendulum swing back at the TIP.

The Hook creates so many options for going out on long limbs and coming back in.
